    Hey all,

I'm in a bit of a situation right now. My Acer laptop will not boot into Windows. It is constantly stuck in with the wallpaper in the background and never being able to boot into the log in screen.

Anyway, I'm trying to reinstall XP while preserving my data. To do that, I intend to creating a partition and installing a fresh copy of XP on that new partition.

Currently, my laptop has one hard disk. I intend on partitioning that disk into 2. I've been browsing the web looking for solutions on how to create a boot disk with FDISK on it, but to no avail.

    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

you would be better off running windows install go into recovery console and running
chkdsk /f /r it should recover your windows if it doesnt do a repair installation neither option should hurt your data

FDisk cannot do things that are non-destructuctive.

the only way to break up your disk into 2 partitions is to use a program like partition magic or partition commander neither one will destroy your data if you use fdisk your data will be lost for eternity... :(
    hope this helps

    I do have partition magic.

But based on what I know, I realized that the boot disk that the program makes are on floppies. Is there anyway to get a boot disk working on a CD-ROM?
