    Hello all,

I have a friend who is trying to run the Mathematica 6.0 installer on a Vista 64 bit machine. He has emailed me telling me that the installation just dies in the middle of it and he doesn't know what's going on. Can anyone here help identify what the problem is?

    Thank you.

We need more information. What copy of Mathematica 6.0 is he trying to install? What are the system requirements listed on his version of the software?

I think it would be more appropriate to contact Wolfram regarding this matter, especially since they are the ones who make Mathematica. I don't think Mathematica not installing is a common issue, so you might not be able to find a lot of help here.

Apparently Mathematica 6 works on Vista x64.

Yeah, I checked on the website yesterday. It says "Optimised for X64!" on the home page.

sounds like the flux capacitor on the computer. i would definitely return or at least ask for a replacement part so you can do the upgrade yourself.

    it's a known issue.

just because it's 64 bit compatible doesn't mean the guy is using the 64 bit install.
