Please play the following video and set it at 1080p.

How much CPU Usage do you have (CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, Performance Tab). I have around 90 to 98%. Why is it so high?
If you play it full screen at 1080p, do you notice a slight jerkiness? Fast forward to 0:50 and I noticed a slight jerkiness. I let the progress bar went in full before playing it so internet speed was not the problem. While not unwatchable by any mean, it is definitely not silky smooth like regular movies.
Is my CPU and Video Card the problem? I have C2D T9600 2.8GHz with Mobility Radeon HD 3470, 256MB VRAM, 2GB RAM.

Download Flash 10.1 beta... it supports GPU-accelerated video decoding. (Only on some graphics cards though... not sure about your particular GPU, but you can check the release notes.)
-
Yes, I see what you mean. Though I get ~68% usages. That's the highest I've recorded from any HD content. Save when my laptop went haywire.
-
It set all 4 cores of my CPU to 75% and I had to ctrl-alt-del to get control of my comp.
EDIT: with the Flash 10.1 beta, usage went down to 50-60%. Impressive. -
Ya, I had this problem the other night watching some videos in 1080p. Funny thing is, it only started when YouTube switched there layout from fine, to junk.
Edit: Hmm, before beta Flash, CPU was around 94% - 100%. Now it's around 80% - 92%. -
looks like you guys get to take advantage of GPU acceleration.
I'm not bitter...not bitter at all...:/ -
I installed it anyway and the CPU Usage doesn't change a bit.
I think Adobe Flash is a bad sofware. My 1080p Blu-ray movie quality is much better than the flash movie from youtube yet the CPU Usage is much lower. Just 10 to 25% and the movie plays silky smooth. -
Just curious and this is an honest question...
Why are you trying to play Youtube videos at 1080p quality when the resolution of your laptop display is smaller? Unless you're using an external display or something... -
-
Trying out the 10.1 beta. I'm not looking at CPU usage, instead I'm looking at CPU temps. It's just a touch cooler now... -
I got 13-29% on CPU usage when I tried it.
-
Any improvements with battery life when using Flash 10.1b?

Quick question, people. If/when major websites like youtube start adopting HTML5 as a replacement or alternative to flash, will we see big performance gains even with Flash 10.1's ability to utilize GPU? Will HTML5 have the ability to also use the GPU?
-
HTML5 is the same as playing a 1080P mp4/mkv file off of your hard drive. For me that would mean 5-15% CPU utilization.
For this 1080P flash, with Flash 10.1 Beta 1 (the only version that seems to work with the Intel 4500MHD), I get 40-60% -
-
CPU utilisation around 60-70% on a Intel Core i3 330M with Nvidia G310M.
PS I would buy anything the woman sells me. =P
Towers don't die by the way, they are still way more powerful than AIO. -
70-80% CPU utilization on a T61 with a GMA965, Core 2 T7300. And since this is a 1440x900 screen, it's some pretty serious scaling going on
Hardware acceleration makes HD video watchable, even with flash.
Make sure that if you have right-clicked the middle of the video and gone to "Settings" and checked the box for Hardware Acceleration.

What the...., I've also noticed higher CPU usage after the new YouTube redesign. Before when watching a 720p video, I would get around 30% to 40% CPU usage. Now, it jumped to about 80%.
How can the exact same video require double the processing power?! I checked to make sure nothing else was working in the background and I am using Flash 10.0.45.2.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, rated at 2.26 Ghz and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 with 256 MB of vRAM (just installed the newest driver last night hoping it would maybe fix the problem, no chance). -
Do you have hardware rendering enabled?
-
On the other hand, it is refreshing to see Youtube is finally moving into the 21st century in term of offering the ability to view HD content--even at the high CPU cost. -
-
10.0 = 50% cpu usage
10.1 = 25% cpu usage
I'm happy -
I just went to check register for tomorrow launch of CS5 then tried to watch one of their previews videos when my CPU shot up to ~100% and now it won't settle down.
Any idea on what could be causing this after the fact? I already deleted the video. I'm using Firefox -
what version of flash is on your machine
does it happen in other browsers (IE, Opera, etc)
does it persist after a reboot? -
Once I switched back to 10.0, my CPU values on video play back returned to a comfortable <20%.
Here is the video that was giving me the maxed out CPU before. Can anyone with high values confirm this?
http://cs5launch.adobe.com/?trackingid=FDKLZ -
I have 100% usage at 360p, and it runs at around 2-3 fps.
1.6 GHz Celeron M and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
I really hope I get my new laptop within the next month. It's been listed as backordered for fifteen days now. -
Screen shot of cpu usage during the video, averaged around 30-40%. Fullscreen gets up to 60-70% (it's the plateau in the middle).

@Riles: The X200 is too old to have any kind of hardware-assisted H.264 decoding. You're CPU-only until you get your new machine -
I was between 60-70% until Installed the new flash now it max was 27%
-

To add to this. The listed supported video cards that support GPU decoded flash are Nvidia: 8 series cards and up, ATI: 4XXX series cards and up (3XXX and up integrated cards), Intel: 4500 and up (and the 500). If you have an older card, the only changes you're seeing are probably in the execution of the code in a newer version.
