My GF's computer crashed and I couldn't save it.I used the restore feature to return it back to factory new.Once I did this,I uninstalled all the crapware, installed all the updates(including SP1),and installed all my anti herpees programs. When I try to do anything on the computer, one of the process maxes out the memory. How do I fix this?I can't do anything on the computer. It just locks up and is completely useless.

The svchost, assuming it's not some malicious program under disguise, is just a system service linking a dynamic library. Something else on your system is generating that memory load.
Does it happen right after boot? Can your narrow it down to some specific program/progress?
Alternatively, use MS official install media to do a fresh install. -
What happens if you reboot it and just leave it like that for a few hours? The problem might go away. Turn off the standby timer first.
Now I remember, this is not a rare issue.

I have tried everything here, except a reinstall using the MS link for downloading and reinstalling 7.I have an OEM version of 7 that isn't supported by MS.My key code doesn't jive, when I try to download 7 through MS.I can't get it through Acer, as they direct me back to MS.I'll try for another week before installing Linux.

Have you tried to activate by calling MS?
-
No.I didn't think I need to because it's a reinstall.

When I go to MS to download Win 7 Home Premium 64 ,it asks for my product key. When I enter it,it won't accept the key.It states on the page that some OEM keys will not work to download.
Here is a pic of all the process that are running under the svchost.exe that is maxing out my memory and keeping my cpu running at 50%+.
The offending process are highlighted in blue.

And nothing changed when you installed the hotfixes I linked to, even after a reboot? Just double checking..
Anyway, here's how to get the original ISO from Microsoft. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/microsoft-windows-office-download-tool.791918/
I've sent you a download link for Win7_HomePrem_SP1_English_x64.iso just in case you don't have .NET 4.6 installed, or just want a link. Check your PM.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 12, 2016 -
I got the iso but it's been hid and searching my HD doesn't turn it up.I didn't get the option of saving the file to a specific folder on my HD.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 12, 2016 -
How much bad luck can you get!
That's so weird. Try my link in Internet Explorer then, it usually let's you pick a location.

Well,it just got worse. As I stated before,I have an OEM product key.I have done a clean install of Win 7.I tried the product key I have, and it kicked me out.So I skipped that, and finished the install. I went in and tried to activate Win 7.Was kicked out again. So I have 30 days before windows becomes crippled. No big deal tho,as task manager is still showing the memory maxed out, and now the CPU is maxing out.I think this computer is done.
It's an Acer Aspire 5732Z -
I see your point. It doesn't sound like the symptoms of a dying laptop to me tho. I could help you get it activated, but I can see why you're done with it.

Not sure what was used to upgrade it but the spec's are; http://acersupport.com/acerpanam/notebook/2009/acer/aspire/Aspire5732Z/Aspire5732Zsp2.shtml , This older hardware is why I suspect drivers and the wireless specifically.

When unexplained high memory usage happens to systems I'm running or servicing, it tends to be malware, Windows Update, or Windows Search. You can try disabling the process for Windows Update and the Windows Search service to see if that lowers memory usage. If not, I'd consider disconnecting the machine from the internet and running malwarebytes & your antivirus to check.
Maxed out memory after refreshing Win 7
