"Media Center" or "Media Player" do we need both?

I don't get it, is the media center programe supposed to operate all the other media programes?
I'd like to just use my "Media Player" (directly) for all my music, period, and get rid of media center, clutter. Although I admit (media center) looks nice but not sure how to operate it. Don't want to risk losing music, fumbling around with this software when all it does is control another software. I think...

Okay, I got a remote built-into my notebook.

I'll go ahead and set my media player as default player, and everything will be fine. The media center will not show-up when i want to rip, burn, or download music.
