right before i had to send my laptop back to get OS moved to new HD i noticed that after the screen where you can get into the BIOS i found some strange text, it chnaged to quickly to see it all but i did see the words "Media Fail" i was a bit worried but vista loaded fine and i was able to login and eveything seemed fine, any idea what this Media Fail is all about?

But you aren't going through the on/off cycle, are you??? watch your system for how it behaves.
Also, I am not sure, but check in event logs to see if u can find something. -

it seemed to work fine once i had logged in.
could it be becuase the new HD that has been added has not been formatted? -
That's a possibility, because then the BIOS would have tried to find the appropriate formatting data on the hdd, and (obviously) would have failed, and as a result would probably have treated it as unreadable (i.e., failed) hardware/media.

after getting my laptop back, from them cloning the OS to the new drive i havent gotten the message so it was either
A: they didnt install the drive correctly
B: it was becuase the HD wasnt formatted
