What does FTW stand for? Does K-Lite Mega Codec Pack support .mkv files too? Is is better than VLC?

FTW stands for "For The Win".

It supports h264 yes. K-Lite Codec Pack is more like a bunch of pack to play multimedia files together, rather than VLC which is a separate media player program. I personally prefer K-Lite Codec Pack + KMPlayer than VLC, but maybe it's just me.

Not really. But it doesn't give a detailed review of why you said the program is good, etc. A few times using it are fine, but if people notice it in almost every of your posts, I don't know, using too much FTW may make you seem like you're still a teenager trying to be cool in the internet. No offense intended though. :)

-How do you prefer K-lite over VLC? WOuld you recommend me to delete my VLC? Which of the 2 has a better user-interface and utility?

Forgive me If I'm wrong, but I think you have a wrong perception of K-Lite. K-Lite itself is not a media player, it is a compilation of codecs, the same as Vista Codec Pack or CCCP. The player included within K-Lite Codec Pack (it is not required to install the player when you install K-Lite) is called Media Player Classic (a lot of people call it by just MPC). The interface is similar to the classic version of Windows Media Player, except with a lot more features. For me, MPC is very lightweight, and when used together with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, never failed me to play any video files I threw at it. I am more familiar to MPC interface than I am to VLC, but I do keep VLCPortable on my flash disk in case I want to play a video on a PC where the required codecs aren't installed. However, I am now grew accustomed to another media player, called KMPlayer, I like its interface and keyboard control, which is pretty much why I switched, but from my experiences, MPC with K-Lite played some videos smoother than KMPlayer.

My conclusion is, just use whichever you like more and as long as you don't have any problem using your preferred media player, then you don't have to switch.

MPC-HC (including VLC) sucks for in Windows 7 64-bit. Low res videos are pixelated, but WMP 12 coupled with Shark007 codec pack and GOM player play those videos fine.

-which occupies more memory, VLC or MPC with K-Lite? Does MPC with K-Lite also works for XP? Does MPC, aside from codecs, also have regular updates and upgrades just like VLC? Thanks :)

I never compare memory-usage of media players before, but I once tried to play a h264 high resolution video on a rather old PC. I used VLC and it was lagging so much it wasn't watchable. I tried MPC (not HC) with K-Lite and it works better, still lagging, but still watchable.

Yes, MPC does have updates, though I'm unsure of its "regular" schedule release. MPC with K-Lite works in XP of course, before I even know of VLC or KMPlayer, I used MPC with K-Lite all the time on my XP PC.

Just a question, can Media Player Classic be used as an iTunes alternative and act as a Jukebox or can you only open and play an mp3 one at a time?

    It's dated 2009-08-26?

I know it's an old thread, and therefore points to an old release. but if you follow the link it should take you to the latest. Which it doesn't

Get the latest MPC-HC from this site

    Ver. 1.3.1881
    Date 2010-05-12

    And now to the question:
One mp3 and vid at a time. It doesn't function well as a music library

Guys, if you have new questions, make a new thread. Bringing up a year-old thread is not helpful. Thread closed.
