MWM in his 30ies new to the MP3 player world looking for a good player/organizer/converter to manage his music on his Zen micro and have a good time....

I have a fairly large collection of music which is really quite a mess, with missing ID tags, different formats (wma, mp3, aac,) which has never really been a problem as I knew where everything was. Now that I am trying to create playlists and transfer the music to my new mp3 player, it is creating some complications with a lot of music files ending up on the mp3 player as "unknown".

So I am looking for a good house cleaning/organizer. Is Mediamonkey any good? What else is out there? I have tried wmp11 and creative labs software but that seeems to only add to the mess...

    Thanks.

Yeah I have used Mediamokey for a while. I thought it was a decent program. However if you want to use a very in depth MP3 tagger I would use The Godfather. Here is a good tutorial because the program is pretty overwhelming at first. :p

After you convert them all I just recommend using WMP11 to transfer them to the Creative Zen but it is really up to you.

    Hope that helped :)

Thanks. I will try it! Also I need to decide if I am going with a consistent file format. I don't think the zen supports aac but does accept mva or mp3. Any recommendations?

The only problem with converting between different file types is that you lose quality. If you have the CDs and can re-burn them in the same format that would be the best idea. However if you don't have the CDs anymore I recommend leaving them in their current format so you don't lose and quality.

Most of my files are in MP3 format because it is the most universal format.

    Tim,

Thanks. Noted on the reformating. Problem is, I use Itunes for a while and it converted some files to aac format that my mp3 player won't recognize so I need to convert them back to mp3.

btw, I read somewhere wmp11 had spyware in it. True or not?

WMP11 should not have spyware on it as long as you download if directly from Microsoft.

I have used this program, but it looks like it will do what you need it to do. If I were you I would make a copy of one of your acc files and then test it out to make sure it works and sounds good. If it doesn't work you will still have the acc file.

Most of what i have (12,000+ MP3, 2,000 'other') is just in folders, with no particular structure other than the files tend to be named Title - Artist - Album. I use The Godfather for massive (2 or 3 hundred files at a time stuff) and WinAmp to catalog my music and 'touch up' tags and other metadata.

Thanks for the links and suggestions. I have been trying to work with the Godfather, but as stated, it has a big learning curve! The tutorial is a big help though.

Tagscanner is faster and easier to use IMO, but The Godfather is good too, and probably more powerful.
