    Merging os/data partitions

    There's a data partition on my friends pc, and the potential benefits for her are miniscule, 'cos 2 partitions are too confusing for the non-savvy.
    Can I safely open Vista's partition/disk manager, delete the data partition and then just extend the OS partition into that space?

    EDIT: Or even just shrink the data one to a miniscule size instead of shrinking
