Yeah, definite a positive thing. I do not play WoW, but maybe they will open it up completely. Wish I could play Gears of War 4 without UWP filth.

Thats great news but a bizarre move with Windows 7 support ending less than a year

Also what about Windows 8.1 users?. We should at least receive parts of Directx 12 too......

Honest to god people are so confused, it makes no sense.

    According to Micro$haft themselves:

Blizzard added DirectX 12 support for their award-winning World of Warcraft game on Windows 10 in late 2018. This release received a warm welcome from gamers: thanks to DirectX 12 features such as multi-threading, WoW gamers experienced substantial framerate improvement. After seeing such performance wins for their gamers running DirectX 12 on Windows 10, Blizzard wanted to bring wins to their gamers who remain on Windows 7, where DirectX 12 was not available.

At Microsoft, we make every effort to respond to customer feedback, so when we received this feedback from Blizzard and other developers, we decided to act on it. Microsoft is pleased to announce that we have ported the user mode D3D12 runtime to Windows 7. This unblocks developers who want to take full advantage of the latest improvements in D3D12 while still supporting customers on older operating systems.

Today, with game patch 8.1.5 for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard becomes the first game developer to use DirectX 12 for Windows 7! Now, Windows 7 WoW gamers can run the game using DirectX 12 and enjoy a framerate boost, though the best DirectX 12 performance will always be on Windows 10, since Windows 10 contains a number of OS optimizations designed to make DirectX 12 run even faster.

We’d like to thank the development community for their feedback. We’re so excited that we have been able to partner with our friends in the game development community to bring the benefits of DirectX 12 to all their customers. Please keep the feedback coming!

    FAQ
Any other DirectX 12 game coming to Windows 7?
We are currently working with a few other game developers to port their D3D12 games to Windows 7. Please watch out for further announcement.

How are DirectX 12 games different between Windows 10 and Windows 7?
Windows 10 has critical OS improvements which make modern low-level graphics APIs (including DirectX 12) run more efficiently. If you enjoy your favorite games running with DirectX 12 on Windows 7, you should check how those games run even better on Windows 10!

Blizzard must be high, and somehow they convinced Micro$haft of their logic..

I suspect Micro$lop is just making up nonsense. DX12 was a dangling carrot to try to lure Windows 7 users to Windows 10 and it has not been enough. Had it been enough, there would have been no reason for them to make any exceptions. I suspect their claim that DX12 games will run better on Windows 10 is just more baloney. Windows 10 is not more efficient and almost always has lower benchmark scores. There are very few examples of Windows 10 performing better at anything. I won't be surprised if the date for the end of Windows 7 support gets pushed later again. There are too many people that do not like Windows 10 and are still not willing to accept it.

If Windows 7 would get again proper support, it would take over on Windows 10 in no time.

Might help if for the most part DX12 wasn't a big steaming pile. in most games that have DX12 implemented, DX11 still performs better on even the newest of hardware.

Absolutely no doubt. That's why the Digi-Nazis are on a digital genocide mission to kill their own.

Yup, 100%... Windows 10 is a pile of doggy do-do when viewed from almost any angle.

    No surprise there.

Its a scare tactic they like to do in order to force users to downgrade to Windows 10 but this time it'll be successful because of the fear and risks of using an unsupported OS especially business owners. Personally i think most Win7 users should move to Win 8.1 at least because its like using Windows 7 after installing Classic Shell plus you'll have full control of Windows updates and less telemetry crap plus you'll receive support until 2023.

It wasn't mentioned here that Microsoft created instructions for developers of ANY game to implement DX12 features for Windows 7.

Now I'm curios, why 3DMark haven't implement it for TimeSpy to be run on Windows 7? Now that would be an on-screen answer of how efficient is this Dx12 on Windows 7.

The only issue with that is the fact that Windows 8.X ruined CPU performance and introduced the RTC bug. The Redmond Retards left things broken in Windows 10. So, yeah... less telemetry and other nonsense, but still an OS that impairs CPU performance. Windows 8 is where the whole CPU performance degradation mess started.
They are probably too scared that allowing Windows 7 to run Time Spy and the other DX12 tests would just ragdoll the snot out of Windows 10 and demonstrate in a very clear and unmistakable manner how superior Windows 7 is in terms of performance. It doesn't reflect that in Fire Strike because the Physics testing carries almost no weight in the overall score. It is evident looking at the Physics score, but most people don't pay close enough attention to notice that if the overall score looks nice.

Welp, I have just sent feedback asking to backport Dx12 API Feature Test to Windows 7 and other benchmarks. The more people does it, the bigger chances to succeed.
