Is this windows update "Microsoft browser choice screen update for EEA users of Windows Vista (KB....)" important?

Also is there any harm in installing since it says this update cannot be removed once installed?

    Thanks in advance.

For most people here, no. If you already know enough to install the browser of your choice and set default, then it's not doing anything you can't do yourself. It's really to allow non-techies to have a choice.

just install it. if you haven't changed your browser yet, it will provide you with the option, to do so. if you have, it will do nothing. it won't harm, though.

Nah it won't harm anything. If you feel like it, give chrome a try!

    agreed.

On topic, I find the thing silly. But its understandable that not everyone knows all the browsers and how to get them.

Thanks for the replies. I did kinda understand what the update was about, but I got a bit lost into thinking why would I want to make a choice 'now' given that I've been using FF & chrome from the beginning.

    Thanks anyways, people.

    Cheers

That's the EU commission forcing MS to promote products from the competition...

I just installed it so I don't see a remaining Update...

If I were MS I'd just close the company completely with all what's going on...

If they "closed the company" they'd lose a whole bunch of marketshare, and create customer discontent, driving them to other alternatives (Apple, Linux)

Which you wouldn't care for at all, would you?

Close the company - put up a statement that you are no longer willing to put up with the EU commission and patent trolls - everybody could walk home with a few thousand in MS if they did that.

And regarding alternatives - in the long run, yes, in the short run there would quite some significant chaos when activation fails, and products stop working or people find they cannot get the products they need.

    on which note...
The browser screen - sounds just like the EU anyway - hit on the big companies so the consumer get a worse product/worse service...
(Look at what they did to the postal system in Europe...)

I guess that's just a simple way to get rid of that update from the list.
