Which do you use/prefer and why?

Personally I can't get passed Office 2003. I use it with work and I often work at home, so I use office 2003 here too.

For me Office 2007 adds nothing that I can't already do with 2003.

2007 is easier to operate is you're a relatively new office user.

    +1 for Office 2007.

The best purchase I've made since I bought my Latitude. Once you get used to the changes (I had 2003 on my previous lappy), the ease of use really stands out.

    MS Office 2007...
Very easy to use & works well for me for what I need to do when using the applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)..etc.

2007... I love the Ribbon, I leave ClearType... it's much easier to use and more efficient with everything easily accessible.

After over 15 years of daily using an office with no ribbon, it's taken me some time to get used to it.

I know most of the shortcuts I use regularly, but annoyingly I don't know the last bit of each one. For example, to put an autofilter on, I know it's Alt + D, A, but then I used to just press enter as the autofilter was the default option. MS 2007 allows you to use the shortcuts & menu options from before, but it's annoying that I simply do not know the last step, and 2007 will not allow me just to push enter and have the default option taken.

However, with that rant over, actually I prefer 2007. Sure, there are some things which it took me an eon to figure out how to get to them, but now I've got used to it, the ribbon makes things a lot quicker.

I do hate word 2007 though. Whose insane idea was it to have all those blank lines (well space after/before paragraphs etc) in the standard formats!!

You are free to change your normal.dot styles. I suspect that the spacing has been altered (line height of 1.15 lines of text, paragraph spacing of 10 pts) to increase the ease of screen reading. Most Word documents these days never get printed out, and larger spacing makes for less eye strain, especially on higher resolution displays that are common today.

I've been using 2007 for ~2 years now and I like it more than 2003. It took some time to get used to it, but it was worth it.

Yes you can change it, and I have. The problem is the rest of the people in my office are, well, less technically minded. I had to change it on all of their systems too. Pretty much all documents that are circulated electronically are also printed at our office. The reason is simple; not everyone will read it if you send an email. They are much more likely to read it if they can't just push delete "by mistake"

Another Microsoft Office 2007 user here. It's a lot easier to find stuff in the new menu system it has. Plus, it's got additional support for doing web-oriented stuff with Office Live.

Office 2007; as with _Vista, once you get used to the new setup (and stop feeling like such a newbie all over again), you'll find it easier to use in many respects.

That's how I was a few years back when Vista first arrived! At home I'm running Vista on all my boxes, and even my parents machines have it.

At the workplace on the other hand... they're reluctant to move up from XP. Some people have it, but they don't do it for everyone... yet.

I've used Microsoft Office 2007 almost from its first release. Although the interface was funky at first, I now find it much better than 2003. Plus, if you double-click the ribbon labels to minimize the ribbon, there's a giant distraction-free canvas for working with documents.

Wow. I didn't know about that. I think that could be helpful, though it won't minimize the distraction of the internet or my computer games :p

It's easier as well if you're a knowledgeable for-years office user. It's just not easier if you can't anymore "learn new things and get used to them". then, it's VERY hard.

I'm the second, knowledgeable for-years office user.

I love 2007, can't wait for 2010. i like how they replaced the "startmenu" with a full-app-size start window/tab what ever you wanna call it. that was an idea i had since years (same for windows.. pressing "start" resulting in some form of desktop/startmenu fusion that fills the screen and gives access to all sort of useful things that you could configure.

Office 2007 - once used to the formats is actually easier and more efficient to function with. Work has a mix of 2007 & 2003 - find it harder (and frustrating) at times to go back to the older version.

I really like the interface change that came with 2007. The new interface allows far better access to referencing tools, very helpful at university.

2003 gives me really lower quality-looking excel sheets and powerpoints, unlike in 2007, where it looks more professional and less cheap. Those that hate 2007 those who are fanboys or just can't accept change.
