Anybody else been experiencing excessive CPU loads with the new Beta? I have only been using Word as of late, but I noticed my CPU usage would remain at around 20% and then Word would gradually consume up to 90% by itself. Once the load spikes, the program becomes instable and things start to stick, words wont type, and everything generally become unresponsive. You can still use it, but it has problems. The funny thing is if I minimize it, everything goes back to normal and then the process starts up again when I bring it back up. Restarting the program also provides a temporary fix.

PC specs are below for reference. And Office 2007 runs fine. :)

"beta" is the operative word here.

You'd do better to submit a bug report to msft.

I already have. Just wanted to know if this was an isolated incident or if others had been experiencing it as well. :)

I didn't notice anything unusual while typing up three essays last week in Word 2010. Responsiveness was always fine. I don't remember it taking particularly much CPU time in Task Manager, either, though I wasn't paying much attention to that (the essays being the main concern). I had Word up for more than 24 hours without any restarts of Word, and several Hibernation cycles in there. I brought it up just now and watched its Task Manager %, and it has yet to go above 5%, being at 0% most of the time.

It could be what you're doing with it. I was just doing common RTF-supported stuff, and had 7 pages in a document max, about 5 documents open max. Maybe something more esoteric likes to eat CPU cycles?

My specs are lower: T7500 at 2.2 GHz, with 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR (3.5 GB usable by Windows). But I am running XP Home - I'm guessing you are probably running Vista or Seven? It could be a Vista/7 issue. Or maybe your security software doesn't like something in Office and the two are doing battle. Not sure what else it could be if it isn't something intrinsic to Word.

Although... you did do a clean install of Office, right?

    Can't claim any.

Do you run any anti virus software that may have broken?

What build are you on? I think I have 4356 or so...

I am writing a couple research papers, each being over 20 pages but with 2007, this was never a problem.

Regarding the AV, I am running a fully updated version of KIS 2010, and again, this had no effect on 2007's performance.

As for the build, I am running 4536.1000.

I just realized, though, that Office 2007 was structurally 32 bit while the 2010 suite I have installed is x64. Are you all running x64 or x86?

    You're running KIS?

Then it broke during the Office Instal - repair it or unistal and instal or replace with Microsoft Security Essentials.

I assume the process that causes CPU load is svchost runnign DCOM and Plug & Play?

I do not think it is KIS as the KIS processes are well within their means with respect to resource usage. Here is a pic to show you the list of processes running as of now:

Yeah, I looked at it after I had replied. Makes sense. Will definitely give it a shot. Thanks. :)
