Hi i am thinking about buying this as i am starting a graduate course this October.

I have some questions some sites state that Microsoft student and office 2007 comes with a 3 user license now how does that work? Say if i was to reinstall Vista would i need to use another license or can i just use the same license? I have had like 4 computers within a year i think i will stick with my current laptop a while yet but you never know the future.

Do all Office student and teacher edition come with 3 licenses?
I have seen some that come with a slightly different front covering.

Also i do prefer the older edition of Office but unfortunately they won't work on Vista or will they?

Is it true that you don't get the full version of Powerpoint and you just get a powerpoint viewer with this edition? Is there anything else that the student edition does not have a full version of?

What is the cheapest price in a brick and mortar store that you have seen? They sell these for £69.99 in Currys. I have a £50 John Lewis gift voucher and i think i will probably do a price match as JL is selling it for £79.99.

Unfortunately Microsoft in the UK does not offer anything like the Ultimate version for students over here like they do in the US.

    They DO offer :)

You just have to wait. At the moment only some countries have started the offer... others are "coming soon"

And if I remember well, its going to be sometime in the second week of September in this part of the world when the offer starts :)

And for the licenses, user numbers, etc, etc., please check the thread on this :) There is a dedicated thread on this ultimate steal :) Cheers.

No issues that I have noticed using office 2003 in Vista on my notebook or home computer.

3 user license just mean that you can install the copy on 3 machines at the same time. So if you have three computers you can install on them and use them at the same time. If you reinstall Vista, then you can reuse it at any time, even in cases where there is only 1 user license type software.

I don't think there's any other Office Student and Teacher edition, only one.

The older versions of office do work with Vista. In fact I'm using both of Excel 2003 and 2007. Excel 2007 adds the number of columns you can work on, but is a bit slower than Excel 2003. I heard/read of the same speed problem in Outlook 2007 vs Outlook 2003, but Outlook 2007 does offer a bit more extras like calendar and stuffs. Even office 2000 still works.

I'm not sure whether the student edition will get full powerpoint. MS website should made this clear.

There is this software called OpenOffice.org. If you really want to use MS Office, I would just get the student edition and then if there's no powerpoint, just use OpenOffice presentation suite for that. But that's just me. Excel is the best at what it's doing.

    Thanks for all your help.

It is interesting to know that Office 2003 and Office 2002 Pro will work with Vista then.

It is also good to know that reinstalling Vista will not take up a license as well.

Fonduekid as of now the Ultimate edition is not being sold on the UK microsoft website but like you say it looks like they will be offering this as a one of for students then.

Rachuk, if you see that M$ page, on the top right they have the list of country flags, with the current running offers, as well as the 'coming soon' ones... :) So I guess it would be out soon :) In Italy they said it starts in the second week of September... and if I were you, I would wait a week or two and get this Office Ultimate :) Good Luck and cheers.

I don't think the Office "Home and Student" version (isn't it called that?) is aimed at stuednts - its just a budget version - only containing the basics, at least the Geman one I have is.

Licenses - yepp, I have the same understanding, you can legally run it off 3 computers (...)

If you are a student however, Microsot offers the "Ultimate Steal" at universities, 40 Pounds for Office Ultimate.
You need a valid educational e-mail adress though
