I need to purchase an Office or Word product but I have a few questions.

    1) I've noticed that Microsoft Office Student and Home 2007 costs around $120 which is typically cheaper than just Microsoft Word 2007, which is usually around $160-180. Student and Home 2007 does contain Word, correct?

    2) I have an office computer with Microsoft Office Professional 2003. Am I going to have trouble writing Word documents with Home and Student 2007 and then opening them on my office computer?

    3) If it does create a problem, does anyone know somewhere I can buy Office/Word 2003?

    I appreciate any input, thanks.

    1) Yes it does

    2) Word 2007 by default saves documents in docx format. MS has an update for office 2003 so it can oben docx. But Word 2007 can also save in the old DOC format directly if needed and can open it no problem.

    3) Try ebay

The only problem you might see is that I don't believe the Student version of Word can modify XML information. This was the case with Office 2003. You needed Professional or above to modify and save an xml document. Basically, if you are not creating templates for another program, you should be ok. I may be wrong about the 2007 version as well.

The reason I don't like the S&T version of Office 2007 is because they replaced Outlook with OneNote in that package. Not a good trade, even for a student!

You can buy the software on www.newegg.com. I go nowhere else for computer parts, but they have a great software selection too.

I suppose if 2007 can save in regular .doc then that's what I'll have to do, though I may gave that update a try if there are some fancy things in 2007 that I want to have saved in the file even after cross-using the document.

I do agree with the limited usefulness of Home and Student, but I really don't want to spend $200 for just word. So I'll opt out of Outlook. :(

Home and Student 2007 is it then.

    Thanks for the replies.
