I'm currently running Office 2003, but I was wondering what the order of Office versions is - I like to keep these applications up to date with the most recent version..

    Is it 2000 > 2002 XP > 2003 > a new one?

    Thanks

They just released the beta for the next Office, Office 12. Don't know if that will be the final name.

Oh cool. So my order there is correct (2000 > XP > 2003)?

What I find nice between 2000, 2002/XP and 2003, is that they seem to be pretty compatible with one another, while the older Office97 won't read some stuff made by the newer versions. Like, any Word document saved in the default formatting by any of the newer Words will not open in Word97. You have to save it as RTF or Word6/95 for it to work.

That probably isn't a big problem anymore.....coz not many people are using word 97 these days!!!

That wasn't said to raise a problem, on the contrary - if Microsoft had dropped the compatibility between 2000, 2002 and 2003, as they did between 97 and 2000, we would have had a problem now, because some people still use 2000/2002.

I am one of those people. I still have Office 2000 Premium. I don't upgrade it because I see no reason to.

It would be interesting to know actual statistics
I think consumers still use mostly 2002/xp

I myself use 2003 on my two newest machines, XP on my older laptop and 97 on my older desktop (which runs Win98SE). My dad uses Word 6 for Win 3.1 on his ancient computer downstairs. I did used Office2000 briefly, but it gave me some problems, which triggered my switch to 2003.

i now use Office 2003 but still have machines that use the previous versions my IBM desktop uses Office XP, while my dell xpx h266 uses office 97 and my compaq 1500 desktop uses office 2000 Pro

glad to be a beta tester of the upcoming office suite Office 12, and i say it's good well for the beta 1 atleast. but it saves the files in the new file formats using XML and is incompatible with any previous versions. though there is a way to change this within the suite i say its better to stck to the current formats then make it an option to do the switch to the XML optimized formats
