How do you download Windows Updates "offline?" Wouldn't you still have to connect to M$ servers somewhere along the way?

When you have the windows update check update box up you can click on the link and then click on more information link on the right side box and it opens a IE11 browser to the site where you can download the link itself instead of using Windows update. This way your going to the M$ site for Windows update but you get the option to download the acutally file-there are times this will not work and you must use Windows Update. But even then this I go to my Windows folder and find the file Windows Update and find the link in there and manual copy the link and download the update. So even when you have to use Windows Update on some files I can still get that file to save it. That's how I been doing it saves alot of headache and you have a offline installer you can save. That what I been doing for some time sometimes Windows Update isn't the best way to do it. Not at my computer right now but this is the method I been using. So should I rebuild my O/S I have all the updates right where I can use them to update without using the Windows Update feature.

How else you can get it?? .... UPS? :p

You can just browse the Windows Update Catalog and download them manually from there.

Plus there are some autotools that can help check and download all updates based on your criteria ie like a fully updated at the time clean windows iso.

That is offline ... you download and install it offline....that's what I called offline....you first download and then install without using Windows Update.

No, but if you have the Windows Update page open and look to the right side of the screen after you highlight or click on the updates on the left you get the option on the right side link to go to that exact page to find the update. It will open a broswer IE in my case to that site and the same for each other updates on the left side their own tab and from there I download the right update that matches my O/S. Only a few of them do I have to use Windows Update to get them since they don't give a link to download them from and even then I go to my Windows directory folder and find the windowsupdate.txt file and look for the *.msu download link and copy and paste that and then I have the actual update as well. This second half takes time to do as you need to know which file it was that was updated through the Windows Update as oppose to your manual download to install later.

Not advised since those programs would catch all updates not the one that is relevant to your O/S. Those autotools is a catch all for updates not something like Windows Update which is just for your own Windows O/S itself. I seen and tried some of those tools and sometimes it shows updates that it shouldn't show or get which might cause more problem then it fixes. Windows Update is a reliable tools when it comes to which updates you need other then the gotcha glitches by M$ - they had with some updates it is a far better to use Windows Update to know what updates you really need.

What's the difference between what you do and downloading the updates thru Windows Update, disconnecting your Internet, then installing them?

First of all those are the actual file that I can then do my own update when I feel like it now when it wants it to. This works in that I am reimage the last image of updates and then reinstall the updates and make a new image. This is why I do this for security and knowledge that the updates are consistent and properly installed. And should problem happen I know which update not to use. What your talking about is it updates it right away not saving to install at a later date. Those two options do the same but very different manner. The downloading to install later works for me best when I image the drive and then install the updates and reimage the drive this provides me a secure update. It's hard to explain until til you follow the steps I use then you will understand why I do what I do. It's safer and why better then just Windows Update I at least know the updates and doing the image and reimage makes sure that if I need to ReBoot then I know it was updated correctly and I can get right back work.

I just got another update from Microsoft Windows Update, today,, 2 updates just released so ask to speak.

Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3000850),,,,,,774.4 MB 3/4 of a gigbyte. November 2014 Rollup Update, Huge Update, Like a Service Pack !!

" The November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 resolves issues, and includes performance and reliability improvements. We recommend that you apply this update rollup as part of your regular maintenance routines. Check out the fixed issues in this update. Also notice that there is a prerequisite and a restart requirement for installing this update."

    "New features and improvements"

" This update rollup includes the following new features and improvements:

    Refreshed language packs
    Defence-in-depth security and Schannel hardening
Support for newer hardware (boot order allowance, SD card improvements, USB debugging)
Improved Web Services for Devices (WSD) printer support during network switches
Performance and reliability improvements in clustered virtual machine mission-critical environments
    Improved manageability
Additional hardware support (devices that have third-party disk encryption software enabled can now be upgraded to Windows 8.1 more easily)

"This November update rollup also includes all previous updates since our last image update in April 2014. This is a convenient single step to bring Windows clients and servers up to date. Unlike our April update, the November update rollup is not required to be able to continue to receive security or other updates. However, we strongly recommend that you deploy it to Windows clients and servers to benefit from these new features and improvements as well as to prevent many known issues that have been resolved since April. This update is thoroughly tested to the same quality level as our previous service packs. However, unlike service packs, this update does not change the version number and does not deprecate or change any APIs in a manner that would require recertification."

Can download and install this thru windows update or direct download and install without windows update.
