15 updates, 171.3 MB including the highly recommended Bing Bar and Bing Desktop...Yup, it must be Tuesday.
Where's my damn axe?! -
15 updates, 112MB, Bing excluded, but MSSE included.
Windows 7 Pro x64 -
I kinda like the Bing desktop new picture thingy - though it has been on the fritz lately; downloading better this past week.
-
I am wondering about the optional nvidia driver, anyone install it?
-
Same as 3Fees ... I was destroying my Bodhi Linux install, luck for me fresh install only takes about 15 minutes.
~~ Radji, I highly recommend to hide both HAHA -
Just tried out the latest Bing Desktop, all in all not bad but Microsoft could add a taskbar only option which would require much less resources as taskbar Bing search engine or they could make it so Bing Desktop dynamically shuts down services loaded for Bing in on the Desktop (maximized) when minimized to the taskbar again.
Other then that it's a good desktop search app when you turn off the Bing Update service via Administration Tool > Services, not sure why the update service is needed in the first place since Microsoft send Bing Desktop updates via Windows Update recommended if the app is already installed. -
I always hide things like this
You try it first? -

Oh, I most assuredly hide all of them. I don't want Bing" anything on my system. Automatic updates always downloads everything and then asks me if I want to install.
Sneaky little gremlins, them Microsoft engineers... -
Don't install drivers from Windows update if it's for laptop. Usually, the drivers from there are for desktop. Get the updates from your notebook manufacturer instead.
I installed the update and it just resulted to black screen. I did a hard shut down and restarted it. It's a good thing I created a restore image prior to update. -

That is false statement in itself and you provided little information to be of any usefulness to anyone reading. I seen where they had bad updates and the lot but to generalize your statement is a very misleading statement to make. Sometimes the drivers no longer exist did you take that into consideration and sometimes windows drivers are the only there to get it or is the only way to do a windows update to get the drivers. The AMD driver with your statement is the bad one that caused problem with AMD GPU not windows itself. Windows only give what AMD gives it not what Windows wants to create they aren't in the GPU driver industry they let that to Nvidia, AMD, Intel to fight over they make general drivers for the card but that assumes they have the stable past drivers to to load otherwise you will need to use the GPU manufacture and laptop site to get the right drivers. And from what I learned anything above 12.10 AMD GPU driver is basically dead in the water for causing endless BSOD and reboots.... -

You have to break that down for me??? -
About the video drivers that come with the MS updates...I am from the old school that says "If it's not broke, don't fix it." Heard too many stories about video driver updates that didn't work. And maybe they were for desktops and not laptops so that is maybe why they failed.
Quazartz likes this. -

Yeah, failed video driver update are the worst, as you can end up with an blank screen if it goes bad.

What I said is applicable to those with Radeon HD drivers. Whenever I go to this site, it always gives me AMD Mobility Radeon™ Driver Verification Tool or the beta version of the Radeon graphics when I searched for the appropriate drivers for my laptop. The desktop version of the latest stable one is posted on their site. They have a reason why they never posted a stable version for laptops. Regarding your saying that anything above 12.10 AMD GPU is a fail, I disagree with that. My graphics version is 13.152.0.0 but that came from the Windows update. This repaired the driver but I not the access to CCC after upgrading to Win 8.1. Plus, the driver always crash frequently. The ones provided by my laptop manufacturer, Samsung, fixed my access to CCC, the crash messages, and other problems like the colours looking pale (which indicates that my laptop is using the Intel ones). The packaging version is quite different from the desktop version. For my laptop, it's 13.152-130830a-162474C-Samsung. I didn't have those messages like "AMD has stopped..." anymore after that update.
My control panel is still offering an update called AMD Graphics Driver Adapter WDDM 1.3. Upon searching, I discovered that this one is just for desktops as of now. For laptops, the latest is 1.2 as posted from the Windows site. It seems to think that my graphics driver is for desktop and not for notebook.
As for those that don't receive any drivers update for their notebooks anymore, if it's stable and working, don't update. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." -
If it ain't broke, don't fix it? Do you follow that for security patches as well? Antivirus doesn't catch all malware.
-
I was wondering too.
What does QFT mean? - QFT Definition - Meaning of QFT - InternetSlang.com
I downloaded IE11 last week; can anyone tell me if there is a way to put the compatibility clippy back on the address bar or is it gone forever to the menu? -
There is a setting in 7 that allows disable auto downloading of drivers for hardware. It will still show up in the list of important updates but has to be explicitly selected manually.
Obviously if you can't get drivers for older hardware then WU is the only other option; but for the newer stuff go to the Mfr. -
Ajnindlo, when I said: "If it isn't broke, don't fix it", I was referring to the graphic driver although it could apply to other hardware updates also. Security patches I always update.
-
Security patch is indicative of "it is broke and here is the fix". So this still falls on the mantra.............
-
More like "it's broke and here it's the fix until we discover we broke more by fixing it"
Anyway I saw some patches tagged as "security fix" even tho they weren't
