I'm having problems with failed updates on one of my windows 7 rigs, all others (7 & 8.1) have installed flawlessly. I do have an idea of what may have happened, but I'm still in the process of getting the updates installed.

15 updates plus 1 for MSE definitions. All updated ok, 135MB.

14 updates, I keep getting the same updates failing, this is the first time it has happened to me actually. Even a system restore didn't fix it. Among those is a security update for 7, some .net updates and two more for 7. I'll try and fix it tomorrow, in the mean time, that computer will remain shut down and if need be, I'll nuke and pave, but given that this is my dual boot 7/8.1 laptop it could be "interesting" reinstalling 7.

Again a withdrawal from microsoft?
I think i found which update is causing it: KB2984006 (its an optional update). After i unchecked it, all the other updates installed without any problems on my windows 8.1 desktop. -

I uninstalled all updates from August, those 5 updates still didn't want to install, got the windows update system readiness tool, still didn't fix it, ran the troubleshooter tool suggested if that didn't do it and now the updates installed. I'm now running a sfc to see if it returns any errors. I will also run a full SSD diagnostic at the very least to make sure it's not dying out on me. I will monitor the situation, but things seem to be back to working properly.
I'm betting something went wrong the first time and it screwed with the list of installed updates or something similar and that is why it wouldn't install. sfc /scannow didn't report anything. Running the SSD toolbox diagnostic tool right now. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
