Hardware- Clevo m52g notebook, 915gm chipset, m740 proc.,

History- Works fine with XP, installed Vista Basic 32bit, drivers an updates, found that windows starts shutting down comes to a black screen no pointer or HD activity. It keeps doing thesame until I do a hard shut down with the power switch.
I reinstalled Vista no drivers or updates and everything works. Installed all the drivers and was fine again. Installed updates , the problems rears its head again. Deleted the updates 1 by 1 and the problem remains. I then did a system retore to before the updates and the problem goeth away. Now i know i need the updates but, anyone have an idea what is causing this.
    Thanx beforehand for any help!

this is just a long shot.
    . download cCleaner
. observe the start up processes (a)
. open up task manager, observe the running processes (b)
    . install ur updates
    . compare (a) and (b)
. eliminate the extra processes one by one and see

my suspicion was that some process(es) still running in the background, causing vista not to shut down properly

    cheers ...
