Now you can run a Virtual mode of Windows XP in Windows 7, you will have a fully functional Windows XP running as a window on your desktop for maximum XP compatibility.
to be able to use this feature, you need to have a CPU supporting Virtual PC mode. (option can be enabled in BIOS)

You need a VT enabled notebook for this to work, lots of current models dont have a VT enabled cpu or it has been disabled in the bios.

Mine supports it, the option was disabled by default in BIOS but I enabled it and it worked like a charm!

I like vmware better
-
Yea but you need an XP license. XP is provided with Microsoft Virtual PC called XP Mode (Win7 Pro and Ultimate)
-
Although you can run Virtual PC on W7 Home Premium you need to supply the virtual OS yourself
You only get an XP licence if you have W7 Pro or above -
Is the virtual PC supposed to run really slowly compared to the non-virtualized OS? My XP lags like crazy on my 2.4 gHz core 2 duo even when doing something as simple as opening a folder on a different hard drive. Is this normal?
-
What is your full system specification? Do you use Virtual PC for Win7 (XP Mode), or do you use Virtual PC 2007 for earlier Windows?
-
You really make me smile this morning.

It's T8300 2.4 gHz, 8800m GTS, 4 GB DDR2 RAM, Seagate 500 gb 7200 RPM momentus... did I leave anything important?
I'm not sure which version of virtual PC I have as I'm not on my PC right now but both my Virtual PC and XP mode file came from here. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
If you look on the download page it says "RC" aka this is not the final version yet. The final will release in 3 days. -
:facepalm. Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if that makes it run smoother.
-
It's normal that it's not PERFECTLY smoothly... But yea it's RC (release Candidate), and not final. A LOT can happen between RC and final. Usually RC mean: "stable enough and all the features works fine... well we (Microsoft) think, how do you think, is there any other issues?"
-
It wont change lol, why would it.. Its not smooth and will never be as smooth as a real OS... My recommendation is to get VMWare or virtualbox and somehow get a XP with license key (dont most of us have this from old days?) and use that.. Its a bit different from Virtual PC but it has almost the same features and its WAY more smooth!
I use it to play RA2 since i have some problems with it in Windows 7 (hardware problems ,yeah believe it or not)
