On a resume, how do you make all the dates align together without editing the spacings for each one?

The original question is too vague. Since I haven't done a resume for 40 years, I don't really understand his problem. Does he want to align the dates in a vertical column? If so then maybe a table would suffice. If he formatted the dates the same like x/xx/xxxx then the dates should align correctly. If he uses word dates like May 20, 2013 and used 3 letter abbreviation for months then the dates should also align correctly. Use 01 for day of the first of the month for example.

To be honest you'd be better off just trying to use a template for a resume that way you can be sure it's lined up perfectly; at least, better than what you can do yourself if you don't know how to do it.

I am trying to use a template. How do I get rid of the 'summary' section in the beginning?

I could delete the contents of the summary section but couldn't delete the big line above it, so there is an extra line.

You just click the line too and hit delete.

It's probably part of the header, Double click that section and it will become editable allowing you to remove that line.
