Open office because it is much more powerful and complete than works. MS Works is one of those programs that I immediatly delete as soon as I get a new computer.

Works is Microsoft's 'budget' suite, and OpenOffice attempts to replace all of the functionality of the regular Office suite. So I'd say shoot for OpenOffice, if you don't like it, go with Works.

Between the both, I prefer OO.

I had Works pre-installed on my lappy..but used OO instead. :D

Ugh! MS Works is an abomination; it's the sort of genetically damaged offspring you get when you try to marry two siblings, notepad and MS Office, together.

If those are your only two options, definitely go with Open Office.

Cool! Are you going to uninstall Works? If you do, run RevoUninstaller! That is an awesome app' for removing the *unwanted* :D (well for me it has been) :D

    Cin ;) :)

too late, i already used the generic "add/remove programs" thing. (or at least the vista equivalent)

    is that bad?

No, it's not. RevoUninstaller...just helps to remove the *extra* leftovers that may still be on your lappy! ;)

No, it's not bad; however, it sometimes doesn't pick up all the little bits that some software leaves lying around after it's been officially uninstalled, so it's not the most efficient uninstaller. Even if you've used that, however, you should be able to pick up any stray bits using either CCleaner, and you should check to see if RevoUninstaller will also look for stray bits to clean up even if you used the default to uninstall.

Nothing wrong with Works. For people who don't need all the extras and just need a basic all around all-in-one program it'll suffice. It's how you use a program that will make it work. Works have come a long way and integrating Word with it made it even better.

With all due respect, I just have to disagree with you on that point. I know, it's ultimately a subjective judgment, so I'm certainly not trying to pick a fight with you, but I went several months without a proper version of Office, and it was not a lot of fun having to deal with Works.
