It is quite stupid what is going to happen. We can't upgrade because MS will ship W7 in Europe without IE8. So? :err:
That means according to MS that we have to do a clean installation.
I don't get it. If you want to upgrade and your Vista/XP has IE8 already, why is not possible to upgrade to W7 even though the W7 disc doesn't have IE8. I understand to sell the full package without IE8 after the EU decision but the upgrade version should be in some way feasible for the Europen people. Don't give me the crap that we cannot upgrade after the EU decision so we have to buy the full version. Everyone who is going to pre-order the W7 before the launch day, clearly has a Windows PC and probably with IE8 so they should be eligible to upgrade. I think MS clearly tries to get their blood back after the EU fined them.
So if you pre-order before 15 of July, the W7 premium will cost you £49.99 (in US costs $49.99; again we've being ripped off). If you buy after 22 October and until the end of 2009 will cost you £79.99 and then will go up to £149.99.
Right we are very lucky
    Thanks again MS

Why blame MS? We can start with Opera, they get what they (not users) want, a non-IE Windows version :D

    cheers ...

Exactly my thoughts. What is it with you Euro whiners? :p

I'd take this deal over the deal we got in NA on the heavily-gimped version.

I still bet US customers will still pay a lot less, or the normal $1=£1 ripoff , once the retailers get there cut.

Well the one-to-one has been going on for a long time. UK customers always get the end of the stick, now that the currency exchange is gonna making MS $$$ :D

Should not have laughed, I am stuck here in continental Europe for a while yet, we'll see how MS is doing with $ vs €

    cheers ...

Its a battle b/w the EU(who are a bunch of unknowledgeable bureaucrats) vs MS(who dont care what happens to users as long as they win). If the EU had real guts, they would try telling Apple not to ship Safari or Novell not to ship Firefox. For that matter, try telling Tesco to advertise ASDA products in their stores, or Ford to use Vauxhall stereos. One could say that none of these companies have the monopoly MS do, but there's a difference b/w promoting competitors and just being plain stupid. All they needed to do was tell MS to give users an option to uninstall IE and it would be fine. Instead they want them to actually advertise their competition. Well done EU, you go one step further in convincing people that you really are a bunch of muppets.

yer i mean you wont have to worry about this crap and you will have a full licence and the fact they get a (if it be only slightly) better deal, why are they complaining?

    cheers

Woot. This is good news. Yay. Price will still suck though so we're still screwed.

So does that mean no free upgrade program? If not, does this also mean full clean install (what I was hoping for)?

you can upgrade with a full version, the only differenc between the two versions is the liscence.

the upgrade v requires a currently installed xp or vista for the key to be accepted.

you can do bothe clean install and an upgrade install(keeps programs files settings)

note: a clean install will be needed for xp upgrade...

True. You can compare US/Euro conversion rate but it doesn't represent the cost of life. The interior value of the Euro is similar to the Canadian $.

You can say it's "unfair" but not really, someone earning $30k a year in the US will earn 35 or even 40k euros.

Just for example, minimum wage in France is 8.71 euros.... which is a lot more than in the US or Canada

Don't worry, the "solomons" in charge here are doing their best to make sure we become as expensive, if not more so, than you guys. ;) Soon enough, it'll probably be cheaper for us to buy from your resellers instead of you folks buying from our resellers (that is, until the Chinese eat both our lunches).
