Sometime then I open a document, the document open as it should, but there's another instance of Word that appears with no page. How can I get rid of that second instance opening

Edit: It seem to happen for the first time I use word after I restarted the computer

I have fought with this issue for over two years and never could find a solution. Like you it only happens for the first document I open after a reboot. I have the issue with Word and Excel.

Do you have modified it, or tried to reinstall?

I have no idea what that first phrase means, but in answer to the second yes I tried a reinstall. It didn't help.

Did either of you try a repair? (control panel > programs and features > select office > change > repair?

Also, did either of you try to delete ALL normal.dot
    ?

Weird, I haven't encountered this issue anytime with Office 2007. What version of Office are you using?

Yes and yes. I've just learned to live with it since it only occurs on the first Word file and first Excel file I open after a reboot. (And I rarely reboot.)

    Gary

P.S. Rajesh it is Office 2007.

Have you tried the service packs for office?

Does it only happen when you click on a saved document? or when you actually click to open the main program?

If you have access to a machine that does not do this, press Alt-f11 and compare the vba settings.

Unfortunately, everything....I don't know what might be causing this.

'nother question....when you uninstalled, did you remove everything? I mean go into Program Files, delete the folders. Go into your profile and delete any folders beneath Application and Local (or the Windows vista/7 equivalents).

I've uninstalled Office before and then reinstalled only to have the same problem because Office leaves so much behind

Not sure why you suggested the VBA settings then. What make you think they might be in play? Do you have some hunch this is based on or are we just grasping at straws?

As for deleting all the ancillary stuff, no I didn't bother with that or the registry either. It is such a minor annoyance, that I didn't go to that extent to cure it.

vba is just a hunch....I am hunting for things that are universal between excel and word--perhaps a macro installed by a third party program. They should show there

Did you UPGRADE to Win7 from Vista or clean install?

    Gary

No macro's installed. I even compared the VBA properties and found nothing unusual. It's still a mystery.
