Description - Manage up to four desktops from the Windows taskbar with this PowerToy.

    Link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

It's part of the whole PowerToys package and I'm assuming it creates something like the "cube" that Linux has except that there isn't actually a "cube". I believe Mac OS has something similar as well.

Has anyone actually tried this? If so, is it like minimizing whole desktops or just switching between desktops using hotkeys?

    Thanks.

Its more like the multiple monitors (minus the cube). I used it on xp before.

And yes its like switching between desktops using hotkeys (or clicking on the taskbar)

Did you come across any trouble with it? Any annoyances?

I also assume you need a nice chunk of memory to do this?

    Thanks for the response nizzy.

No, actually it doesn't eat up memory. Its very very similar to how Linux does it.

In case anyone is wondering, this powertoy doesn't work in Vista. This one does however:

It is an open source project to give virtual desktops in Vista.

I've used it, but Yod'm 3D is way better ;)
    It's like Beryl for Windows.

I just want to switch between desktops. I can do without the cube. :p

IMO, it's like an unnecessary transition, kind of like minimizing windows and seeing it transition into the taskbar. I disabled that all together and everything is so much better (and faster). So now minimizing a window is just as fast as closing it.

I found this screenie. Looks neat.

How many desktops can it create? I currently use Cool Desk, which can create up to 9 virtual desktops. It works pretty fine for me.

If you'd mind, don't revive old threads.
If it works fine, use it, if it doesn't, don't.
