    Hi,

I sold my old Envy 15 touch screen and bought another Envy 15 non touch so I can put my own IPS panel in (I know how to do that part). My new laptop will be here sometime this week.

Anyways, to the question: I have a Samsung 840 Pro with 256GB of storage, I need to put that into the new laptop. Since they will both have an HP bios it shouldn't be much of an issue. But, it has Windows 8 on it and that key belongs to someone else (since I sold the laptop) on the HDD my old laptop came with. But, I have the same Win 8 on the SSD with my games and programs on it. Basically I need to plug the SSD into the new computer with Windows and all on it then upgrade so I have my own key since 1 can't be used at the same time. I am going to buy Win 8.1 PRO student. Since I am going to college I get it for around $70. I am going to download that to a disc(s) and setup my Win 8.1 PRO, upgrading from the old Win 8 that way I have my own genuine key.

The reason I have to do this is because the HDD will have Windows 7 and if I copy that to my SSD, I'd have to downgrade and lose my games and programs that take forever to download..

The only difference from my old Envy to my new coming Envy is as follows:

New: Nvidia GPU instead of only 4600
New: 1080p non touch instead of 720p with touch
New: Win 7 instead of 8

All other things should not conflict(like RAM).

I see the GPU graphic driver for my model on the HP site. But, will the win 7 Nvidia drivers work when I add them to my new Win 8 PRO?

Doing this would be a lot easier than having to activate win 7 on the new HDD, make a recovery disc(s), run them on my SSD then have to clean install EVERYTHING. I have a couple games on there that took a long time to download and don't really wanna go through it again..

    Thanks.

You can simply install the drive in to your new computer ... after all the new hardware is detected, you should have a period of time (probably 30 days) to "re activate" windows ...during that grace period, you can upgrade with your own licensed copy ...

    Best of luck...
