Hi, Im about to get rid of my ailing macbook and change to a PC laptop. I have music in iTunes in several formats includeng MP3 and some in apple lossless.

Can people help me with the following questions please ?

    1. Can I get iTunes on the PC laptop ?
    2. What file format/s should i go with; for best quality ?
    3. I currently use iTunes to link to my marantz media player using airplay. Can I still do that on PC laptop ?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Yes. Download it from apples site.

    2. Lossless would imply better quality than MP3, so that.

    3. Yes, AirPlay should be supported.

    .mp3 for .mp3 and .alac/flac for .alac.
No point in wasting space by converting .mp3 to lossless.

You can leave them as .alac, provided your player can playback them.
Otherwise the choice is up to you - .flac for lossless, or .mp3 if you're fine with it.

I guess if i have imported from a CD as MP3 I cannot increase the quality of those files ? Im stuck with what i have ? I still have a lot of the source CDs. Ultimately I want my digital music library to contain files of the best quality I can.

No. It won't make any sense.

If you want lossless then just rip your CDs again.

Didn't Apple DRM the iTunes to begin with so you can't move them.

Never had issues with that back when I was still using iTunes. Granted, that was 6 years ago.

    Same here.
Used Winamp to rip all my music from iPod, worked well. There was a manual method too (maybe still is), a la drag and drop, but then the files would have messed up folder/file names.
