    Millions of Tray icons

    I keep getting multiples of the same tray icon, for example there are 3 windows update !'s, 4 local are connections with the X meaning not connected, and 3 wireless connections all connected! This makes no sense to me, when I mouse over them the extras go away, but then they come back later! Also, startup takes forever with the taskbar having an hourglass when I go over it for about 5 minutes after startup! :eek: What happened to my nice install? By the way, it's XP Home SP2, and it works fine except the windows taskbar is indescribably weird in addition to the above.

    You probably have a virus of some kind. I would recommend scanning the entire computer with an AV in safe mode.

    Also, go to Start and search for msconfig; go to the startup tab and uncheck any unwanted or unneeded programs.

    When all else fails, do a Microsoft system restore to a point in time when your computer was working properly. Or in actuality , that should be one of the first things to do. Virus scan is a good Idea also .
