    Hi.

I wanted to know if there is some kind of software that allows me to monitor the activities on my desktop using my laptop. not some kind of middle management annoyance, but since i download loads of stuff, i wanted to know when is everything ready.

so far i only know showmypc, but the free version only lasts for 1 hr. any other options?

i tried googling, but it all showed me was ways to connect a monitor to a laptop.

    thanks in advance.

I use RDP that is available for Pro and Business version of Vista/7. You can get a patch to make it work on Home Premium.

TeamViewer is good for that. I have it set up so I can manage any of my other machines from my M11x.

Also, have a look at the download programs you are using. Things like uTorrent can be controlled from a browser on another machine. If the downloads are from usenet, have a look at SABnzb+

I would not recommend DMZ but just simple port forwarding. I port forward an unusual port (3389 is RDP, you can choose whatever you want) so it is less likely to be guessed.

Though not all router allows you to map different external port to internal port.

Either way, make sure you have a strong login password and hopefully disable the built-in 'Administrator' account.
