Right now Windows XP 64-bit is basically just extensions for the 32-bit system that may or may not work correctly. I don't recommend using it. Your best bet is to either wait for Windows Vista, which will have true 64-bit support, or install a 64-bit version of Linux.

actually 2000 is faster than xp.
download a bootable linux distro cd to see if linux is what you are looking for.. google for "knoppix" and "live cd"

but i think you should stick to xp until vista gets released..

Linux and XP are each good for different tasks. Linux is faster in number crunching (due to the OS being much less bloated), it is amazingly useful for various batch jobs, has very useful command-line tools. But it's not as easy to use as Windows, it doesn't have that much user apps / games / drivers written for it, so using it as a primary OS for every day stuff is not very convenient.

I like 2000 better than XP. I use XP because it supports more games, drivers, etc. I have the classic interface - much faster than the regular.

If you are looking for 64-bit Antivirus, try Avast! 4.6 Home.
