I currently own a HP notebook PC and has the original Windows 8.1 OEM OS and my question is that if I sell this PC will it have more value if I upgraded it to Windows 10 or keeping the original OEM OS? I' am not selling it anytime soon but if I did will it be worth more with Windows 10 clean install or the OEM OS? Just wondering if most people like to be a PC with original specs as possible. Thanks
Well I just didn't know that if keeping the original specs is worth more than been modified and upgraded. I noticed a lot of times that even a user upgrades ram to max it doesn't sell much more even if they paid for the upgrade. I' also have a lower end machine so I don't know if I will get more if I sell it with Windows 10 or the original OEM Windows 8.1. I just want to upgrade while it's free to if in the long run will make more money. Although I did upgrade once and was able to put back the original OEM OS and even the recovery partition that came with HP is working fine so my notebook looks like it has never been upgrade since everything works like it did brand new. I heard some people said that sometimes it gets corrupted when going back to original OS but mine didn't and maybe Microsoft fixed that problem recently since it was last week when I upgraded it and put back the original OEM OS since I thought maybe it was worth more if I have the original specs if I ever do sell it. But I just wanted to ask you guys if you knew. Thanks

Technically that system already has a digital entitlement since you upgraded to Windows 10. I would personally sell it with 8.1 and leave a note that it qualifies for the free upgrade to 10 because it has run 10 before that way they would have more choice. Some people value 10, others value 8.1 over 10. Having access to both without paying extra would obviously be the best way. You could even offer to install 10 for them if that's what they want since you'll want to wipe the system anyway.

I would pay less for a computer that has W10 compared to ones that have W7/8.1

Honestly I don't believe it would make a difference in the price your system will fetch. Having said that... I despise Windows 10 enough it would be a show stopper if the only option was that OS.

It very likely makes little to no difference or <$10 for a low end machine. How much is your time worth per hour?

I just sold a Dell laptop that originally had W7. I had upgraded it to W10. In the listing I offered to leave it as is or to re-install W7. Buyer chose W7.
I don't think the Windows version matters much to buyers. I have also noticed that a lot of buyers seem to value storage space more than the speed of a SSD. That seems crazy to me but it's what it is. -

Well I don't think it would increase the value in any way. I would thing since Windows 10 is the most support OS and a machine having Windows 10 might give the buyer an impression the system is newer. Hardware is more determination of a price then an OS.

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
@DalArc17 sell with 10, especially older machines. Some buyers might think it's outdated without 10, especially once the free upgrade offer has ended.
