What are your most useful software titles? The programs you put on your computer the first week you get it. They may not be the most entertaining or frequently used programs you have... but when you need them, they are there in all their practicality!

Please elaborate for those who may not know the names or the purposes of the programs you use (like me ;))

    Check out True Crypt.

It allows you to create an encrypted volume, the size of your choice, where you can store passwords, private documents, videos, whatever!

This gives you an easy way to store anything you don't want others to see or have access to, in case your laptop is ever stolen.

Once you've created the encrypted volume, you'll need to enter a password to view and/or access this volume. Once the password is entered, the volume appears just as any other volume on your computer, allowing you to drag any items to it. Once you dismount the encrypted volume, everything is secure!

Really brilliant piece of software, and best of all, it's FREE!

By the way, you can even create an encrypted volume on a flash drive, to protect data on removable storage!

The GodFather - I love this. It is the best program to use for tagging MP3s. It does a lot of stuff. Definitely check this out.

Fair Use Wizard - This is the best program to use for encoding DVDs in XviD or DivX. It also does iPod Video format, and it works great.

Allway Sync - I use this to keep my music folder backed up. It has a lot of options for when it syncs, and has more features than I can take advantage of.
