I created some .iso's of some of my older CD game so that I don't have to lug around CD's everywhere, but they're taking up quite a lot of room on my HDD, is it possible for me to simply burn them to a non-bootable DVD and mount them from there? Is it possible from a flash drive?

Yes... both methods are possible. Data-DVD is just a storage medium and so is a flash drive.

As jack said, burn the actual .iso files themselves to a dvd (not their contents only) so you end up with a data DVD that contains a number of .iso files which can then be mounted

For a flash disk, simply copy the .iso file over to you flash, and then you can mount it from there

    Hope this helps

Yep. As long as your ISO file is intact, it doesn't matter what medium you use to connect it. Daemon Tools or whatever you use should mount it just fine.

It may be a bit slower than a mount directly from your hard drive, thanks to the slower transfer speed of optical drives or USB, but it will work.

I suggest that you convert the .iso file to UIF(magicdisk/magic iso file) with compression. .UIF can be decompressed on the fly thus increasing speed which a computer can read a disk image from a DVD and also save tonnes of space. The best case scenario is about 50-75% reduction in storage space used.

    No problem
    Glad I could help

I could save alot of space like this
Are the 2 programs you mentioned the only ones that can deal with .uif files???

I don't know. I think there are a couple other programs that can take advantage of the .uif file.

The 2 programs I mentioned are from the same company.
MagicISO is like Nero, but without those fancy media features, but has much better support for data disks. It cost around $50 I believe.
MagicDisk is freeware. It's like daemontools, but better. I made myself a portable version of this and put it on all my archieve .uif so I can at least have better compatibility than .iso file while maintaining lower storage requirement.

I'ma have to try this, it will reduce my PSP game collection's size by a substantial amount

    Every little helps
BTW does MagicDisk create the actual .uif file or can only the paid software do it???

Magicdisk can compress iso files. Just start the program, right click the tray icon then click "compress ISO files.."

So if I mounted a .uif file, it would function just like a .iso file but take up less space?
