I have a large collection of digital photos and video clips that I'd like to cut together into a short video. What software do you recommend for this task? I'm limited to windows/suse, so no imovie. Thanks.

Windows Movie Maker comes w/ WinXP and is very user friendly, I just made a 15 minute movie with it and it turned out pretty good. Since you are not using any video it makes it very easy, I've done that before too. If you don't like WMM, you will probably have to buy something to get anything good, I've tried a couple of free ones, but have yet to figure out how to use them. Avid Free DV is one of them, they also have versions you can buy.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually am using some video clips as well as digital photos. Can WMM not handle video clips? I tried to use WMM, but I get an error when I try to run it: "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy" I can't find the conflict...

I can with good feelings recommend Magix Movie edit pro. I use it myself and it's cheap and comes with loads of stuff for the light and the advanced user. Can handle pictures, movies (ofcourse), music. And ofcourse this can be put on a DVD, cd or svcd with whatever quality you like. That's something WMM doesn't do ;)
