I've got this quicktime (.mov) video I took with my digital camera/camcorder and I need to chop down and put sounds/music in, but I don't have a computer program that can do it. I tried windows movie maker which came with my computer but it doesn't support the file type.
So are there any good, free video editing programs that can do .mov's? And if not could you reccomend a decent file converter so I could just switch the file into something I could use with windows movie maker?

you can try Super (C) by eRightSoft for video conversion

That can't be for real, can it?

I would be suspicious of any company that can only be contacted by email: http://www.erightsoft.com/contact.html

Same problem here, our camera saves in Quicktime .mov and it's the only file format that Nero can't read ! Too bad Nero edits movies very nicely.

yea, I would be suspicious of that....if it does so much....that should be enough attraction, but they keep emphasizing the free-ness which indicates that they get some sort of pay off from people downloading, which means that it is probably full of spyware etc.

I haven't had any problems with super, I scanned the exe file for viruses and have scanned my computer for spyware since installing and haven't found any spyware on it. It converts the files well IMO.

Another good option would be MediaCoder.

MediaCoder is excellent software - plus, it's open source. You can use it convert your QuickTime movie to a format that Windows Movie Maker can read.

SuperC looks like it's simply a nice frontend to some VERY common and well-vetted GPL tools (ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer, etc.). I'd figure it's pretty safe to use. Make sure you virus-scan it first though.
