I had a MacBook Pro and just bought a Sony Vaio FW...so I need to move my data back to PC. Is there an easy way to do this without going over a network? I have some external HDs but I know Windows can't read Mac file systems.

format the disk with fat32, that should be read/writable by both (maybe other file systems are supported, too, don't know..)

just be aware that fat32 doesn't support files bigger than 2gb, so big movie files might not work.

else, just set up a network, it's not complex or hard. you're online, so chance is big you actually are on a network right now. no router with multiple ports? or wireless lan?

Pretty sure they can, actually. From what I've read, Mac doesn't work so well with NTFS, but if you have a FAT32 formatted drive, it should work under both OSX and Windows just fine. But your primary drive on Mac can't be FAT32, so just format one of your external drives as FAT32, transfer your data, and you should be golden.

Edit: Dave!!!! ;) Ya beat me to it.

You can also use a program called Macdrive which will let windows read/write to mac partitions.

1)Install NTFS plugin for MAC. 2)Format your hdd with NTFS. 3)Transfer the files.
