    New Firefox. What's wrong folks?

Have just installed FF7 and got a problem. All text became very thinny. Like ClearType was disabled for Firefox. Don't know what a hell happened.
Checked Properties. Same font (TimesNewRoman), same size and advanced settings.
Used master of ClearType Settings again.
    What now?

SOLVED THIS EXACT PROBLEM. But there are more.

BTW. If you have other problems or same one please write.

No issues here. Everything's working swimmingly. It's much quicker than previous versions, and memory usage is way down, too.

    Excellent version; no issues.
RAM usage seems pretty much the same but boy oh boy, it's so much snappier.
    (No, not measured, purely subjective...)
Love it, except for the url/http trimming but that's easily adjusted with ' browser.urlbar.trimURLs;false'
Add-ons also all functional; Noscript, AdBlockPlus, HTTPSEverywhere.

Can you tell me how to input that? (browser.urlbar.trimURLs;false)

Wonder why they did that? I can't tell if I am on a secure website anymore! ( https://)

Open a new tab and type in the address bar; about:config
You'll see a warning; ' This might void your warranty', never mind that, simply click on ' Ill be carefull, I promise!'.

Then you'll see a whole list of possible settings but you only need to change one.
So, type the following in the ' Filter' at the top; browser.urlbar.trimURLs
Right-click on the (now in bold) text and select Toggle, this will change the value from true to false.
    That's it.

    "swimmingly"

I LOVE that word. Have really been wanting to use it a lot this last week. :p

Installed FF7 with the latest update. I'm not impressed. Then again, I'm never impressed with FF. Still slow to launch compared to IE9. FF will always just be a backup browser for me.

Not for nothing IE takes two-three time longer to launch on my laptop.

Eh, compared memory usage with the same tabs... there was a significant difference. Chrome 15 v FF 7.

Such a difference in performance between us two!

I've got an SSD and am running eBoostr. IE9 launches instantly and FF takes 3 seconds, with or without eBoostr caching.

On my end on default, normal sites have the http trimmed out but secure websites still display https.

It's asinine, I know, but any chance they restored the keyboard shortcuts they took out? Like F6 to highlight the address bar (with tabs on top) and Ctrl+E to highlight the search bar?

I am not aware of any keyboard shortcuts being removed from Firefox 7.0

Try (clean) un-installing and re-installing Firefox then?

    cheers ...

    Browser URL window http:// revisited...

Based on another post on another forum, concerning the hidden http:// feature, I was told that if you visit a secure site or a ftp site you will see the https:// and ftp://

So I tested it out by toggling the hidden https back so that I could not see it. Then went to a secure site and lo and behold the https appeared. So Firefox7 is smarter than I thought.

The F6 and Ctrl+E shortcuts were removed in Firefox 4 when they had been in all previous versions. It irks me because I use them so often. Internet Explorer and Chrome continue to use them while Mozilla somehow got the bright idea to remove them for no clear reason. I'm wondering if they're still removed in Firefox 7.

I'm running FF7, and F6 does highlight the address bar - Ctrl+E seems to do nothing though.

    Hope this helps!

I don't think either of you are in the norm. I take these speed tests with a grain of salt but here is one from Lifehacker:

Browser Speed Tests: Firefox 7, Chrome 14, Internet Explorer 9, and More

Not saying this was the case with either of you two, but often people do not compare with addons disabled.

For me IE9 seems the quickest, Chrome then FF. But there is very little difference so it's FF is for me. Now, FF is customized and most familiar to me.

Thanks! Just curious, are you using tabs on top or on bottom?

It seems that the F6 shortcut only works in Firefox from versions 4 and up when tabs are on the bottom. If tabs are on top, it won't highlight the address bar at all.

I've had a issue with FF freezing since FF6. If I try to click on multiple things at once (open a new tab then trying to click back to my old tab while it loads) It'll freeze up and say that it isn't responding. If I let it sit for 15 seconds or so it goes back to normal but it's really annoying.

what do you guys mean by address highlighting? It kinda sounds like you guys are talking about ctrl+l.

ps, don't know why people bother with the search engine toolbar thingy, i just integrate it into my main address bar

Yes, you're right - I moved the tabs to the top and the shortcut stopped working. How weird!

I am still on FF4. I have some add ons that are only compatible with FF5.

Is there any way to run FF7 while using my add ons?
If not, is it possible and recommended to run FF5? Where do I download FF5 from if that is the case.

=/ I'm way too dependent on my fingerprint reader, which doesn't have an update for the newest FF.

    FF 3.6.22 FTW!!!

They've changed the font rendering. Again.

Look into gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.rendering_mode (via about:config) and set it to one of the following settings:

    -1 - Firefox Default
    0 - Default
    1 - Aliased
    2 - GDI Classic
    3 - GDI Natural
    4 - Natural
    5 - Natural Symmetric

The new default is -1. Change it to 0 if you want it to render like in Firefox 6.0. If you want it to look like, say, Firefox 3.6, you'll need to try one of the other settings or outright turn hardware acceleration off in the advanced options.

Had washed out fonts in 4,5 & 6, disabling hardware acceleration helped, but close to give up ff. Recently installed 7.0.1 & all looks good, hardware acceleration enabled (w7\amd\ati).
