    Hello,
I'm thinking of going to Vista finally.
I'm going to get a new HDD (this one) & dual-boot Linux Mint & Vista Home Premium. I am going to keep my old HDD & install it if I ever need XP again. I'm going to install an extra gig of RAM as well.

How hard should it be to dual-boot with Mint? Anything I should remember? What size should the partions be? I'll be using Vista most of the time & most of my files will be on there.
Later on I may tri-boot with XP home.
    Post any comments here please!

Personally, I suggest you to wait a little before heading into Vista. The reason being that SP1 is just around the corner and it is so far in good standing (from the positive comments and experiences the fellow forum members had with the service pack); having it on your machine as you try out Vista will make that first experience with the new OS more enjoyable. This is absolutely only my personal opinion, do as the situation see fit, if you need Vista on the laptop now, by no mean should you let my reply stop you from doing so.

I prefer to set up my drives with a separate partition for most of my personal files, so I would go with 20 GB for XP, 30 GB for Vista, and 15-20 GB for Mint. Add a Linux swap partition of about 1.5 times your physical ram size, and you should be good to go. You can set this up as a tri-boot system if you want to.

    OK with this:
    XP- 25GB
    Vista- 35GB
    Mint- 20GB
    Linux Swap- 3GB
    Files- 37GB

    Is this pretty good?

That would give you plenty of space for apps and more. I think those are really good numbers there.

Doesn't Vista requiere 40GB to accept the installation?
