YouTube - Lady Gaga - Alejandro / Makeup Tutorial.

This is an example video above. I downloaded a HOST's file which works fantastic. I'm really happy with it. But from about 4 months ago, I can't watch some videos on YouTube, they just don't load up. The video's are ones with ads on it (partner video's), like the one above.

When I delete the HOST's file, and restart FireFox, it plays. But I watch a lot of YouTube, and I can't do that everytime I want to watch a video. It does the same on Chrome, Opera, IE and Safari.

Is there anything I can do? that lets me keep the HOST's file AND watch YouTube videos?

    Thanks.

you'll have to find what specific ip address corresponds to the ads in the videos, and delete that line from your hosts file.

do you understand DNS and what an /etc/hosts file might do or are you flying blind?

    I'm flying blind. lol.

And I don't know which ad service YouTube (Google) uses. (I don't mean AdSense, I mean the one thats being used for advertising)

I want to be able to still block all the websites, but not on YouTube. How can I do it?

adblock. just disable blocking on youtube.com or just on the specific ad server that's causing you trouble.

I don't like adblock. I much preffer HOSTS as it blocks it from all browsers. And I don't know what ad servers are causing me trouble. :/

you might want to reexamine your preference for a modified /etc/hosts if you don't understand how it works.......

AdBlock stops the request before ever hitting the hosts file. It also incorporates rules and helps block redirections, and actually get updated (assuming you subscribe to a filterset) as opposed to a hosts file that relies on you to keep up to date.

I would recommend not using a hosts file if you don't know what it does. A hosts file routes all requests to certain domain names to a black hole, basically. So ads don't get returned. But it's for the entire domain, it can't block just the javascript or certain sub-files. That is where Adblock comes in handy, because it can filter requests based on much more complex and less broad rules.

Yes. It's an Add-In for Firefox. There's also a version for Chrome. Not sure about IE, as I don't use it.

You may need to re-install windows for that.
