I came home from school today to see my computer at the Login Screen of Windows. I didn't restart it before I went to school, and I really don't think my mother restarted it. Any ideas/possibilities?

Did you tell it to bring the login screen after standby or something. If that's not the case, have you told the windows to hibernate/shutdown after being idle for a certain time. It's possible that sometimes windows would restart instead of shutdown.

ive left this machine on plenty of times all day without any problems when I got home. This is the first time It has done it, I leave it on almost all day and night but I have a laptop cooler under it and temps arent usually a problem.

there are some windows updates which automatically restart your computer if you aren't physically there to hit the "restart later" button.

It could have also been a BSOD, which was set to auto-restart. Sometimes some hardware is sensitive to static, etc. and just causes a reset, too, at an essentially random time. Check in your log files, see if anything was reported right before it presumably restarted (under the Administrative Tools section of your Control Panel). It could just be a one-time thing.

You could always check the event logs.

Of course there are many reasons as to why your computer would restart by itself.

I would not worry about it, its a very minor detail.
