So I get home after work an hour ago and all I want to do is watch heros online but I can't because my freaking bran new T60 wont play any audio except for those stupid winodws nosies. I tried and tired to fix it I downloaded all the latest updates on the IBM site and searched for windows updates, but nothing. Funny thing is I could watch it prefectly fine 7 hours ago, all I did was hibernate my notebook when I left and now this. Im lost what can I do.....oh yea I do keep getting a generic process Win32 error or something I did what windows told me but that didnt help either, please help!

    Try this :
Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Volume tab -> Advanced.
Make sure all thing are on (of course you might want to turn off the microphone)

Go to Device Manager (Start menu > (Right click) My Computer > Properties > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager). Check if there are any yellow exclamation marks, question marks or red cross marks under any of the devices.

Nope nothing everything seems to be normal but this is the exact error I receive "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Do you by chance have a Sigma Tel audio chip in your laptop? I had a similar driver issue with my Vista desktop. The default driver Vista installed worked, but after updating I had problems. Try what PhoenixFX said, but instead of updating the audio driver roll back (if possible). First, get to the Device Manager and then right click on the audio codec. Choose uninstall. Then choose Action > Scan for Hardware Changes to let Windows reinstall the driver. See if that works.
