Works perfectly for me too. Don't know what your problem is, you have MCE 2k5 so it shouldn't be giving you problems like the vista one.

I switched over to Vista and updated firefox and it works fine. But something is wrong with my xp end now. I can't get firefox to work after uninstalling and cleaning registry or anything. It just wont work, it loads up, but wont go to any website it says that it timed out or whatnot.

    First question- Does IE work?
If yes, then it's definitely a FF problem.
If no, then it's a windows problem. (which would be weird, but not unheard of)

If you updated Java (or it auto-updated), there does seem to be a problem with that and FF 2.0.0.4. Either Java or FF prevented it from updating.

On FF 2.0.0.4 updated on my desktop and both laptoptops and work fine. The update on the desktop kind of hiccuped though. I had to reboot and everything was OK. All machines running WinXP MCE 2005.

Did you delete your FF profile folder too, when you uninstalled? It doesn't get deleted through Add/Remove. I also delete all Firefox or Mozilla folders and reboot before trying a re-install.

Well glad IE is working then at least.

Try installing new Java SDK maybe? Also are you behind a Proxy, Firewall or something? Maybe you need to change your Network connection settings within Firefox to get it to work.

    Options/
    Settings/

Try setting it to Automatic or something maybe?

The most common reason for not being able to connect to the net after updating browser is firewall. Most decent firewalls can detect that the executable is different from the one that was used when the application was allowed and block it.

I don't have a firewall running, and I'm using the same router as I'm using FF on with Vista. What is a new Java SDK, I think that might be what I need..

I really don't know what this is. I went in IE6 and updated it to IE7 and then even IE wouldn't go to webpages. So I uninstalled IE7 again and it reverted back to IE6 and now I can get on webpages again. Firefox still doesn't work. My friend told me something about a winsock corruption or something. This is really annoying because on the same system just on my Vista partition everything works fine. I have no firewalls, or any fishy processes running. I am angry.

I re-downloaded the java runtime and all of that and it didn't fix anything. This is making me very very very angry >.<.

Recently lent my old PowerBook to my ex. When it was returned today, FF would not work on my machine either - no matter what I tried . . . at first. Seems to be an epidemic at hand. Fortunately, deleting and reinstalling cured the issue.

Have you tried manually deleting Mozilla in addition to FF? On an eMachines desktop a friend recently bought, we had issues completely deleting Norton until we also deleted Symantec from her computer. Maybe if you tried deleting the "parent" and then another cleaning of the registry your machine will allow you to reinstall FF?

AHHH im having the same exact problem too! my firefox hasnt been working for around a week or so since i updated something on it. IE works fine but firefox keeps saying

    Unable to connect

"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

ahhhhh......and im not sure if this has to do with the firefox problem but my AIM triton wont connect either. the old version of aim works fine but triton wont work anymore either.

but back to firefox. i tried to delete all of its files and reinstall it..didnt work :(

anyone know if theres a number or some contact info for mozilla i can talk to them through?

Here's the link for Firefox support:

    http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/support/

As far as I know, all that's available is the forum or the online chat (IRC). There's a link on that page called "3rd party support" that might offer some phone assistance for a fee.

I'd strongly suggest searching the forums there for the problem before posting. They are very, mmmm, snooty? They're nice enough (usually), but can get testy with folks who haven't tried to find the problem. Especially if there's already a fix posted somewhere.

Sounds like your firewall is blocking it somehow. Have you installed ZoneAlarm or something else lately? Check the blocked applications list in your firewall, and make sure that you're only running one firewall (multiple firewalls just causes issues)

Check FF and AIM to see if you maybe have a proxy setup to connect. If IE works, then it's a problem with how those two programs are connecting to the internet. It could also be a firewall issue, but most likely only if you have a 3rd party firewall. I would go into the connections dialog and set it to default, if it is there, reset it. See what happens.
