I have all updates installed. Vista Ultimate SP1 x86. I was downloading GOM Player and checking my Face Book when this happened. My laptop was on batteries and I did NOT install any new hardware. Any ideas?

Maybe there was some sort of virus in the GOM player you where downloading. Did you try running in safe mode, run some virus programs, and see if there is any?

The way viruses are in this day in age, anything could be possible. Ofcourse I am not saying this is the problem, but it could be a nice step to get it out of the way, just to narrow down what the problem is. There are a few really good virus programs that you can run in safe mode (I have had to use them myself once or twice), but for the life of me, I can't recall their names. One that comes to mind id Dr Web fix it, but I could be TOTALLY off base with that one. Maybe someone else has some programs, or hell....even a better idea than mine.

Two days ago I ditched openSUSE 11 and while booting Vista I got bsod. Backup didn't help, had to re-install the whole thing again :(

0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER - A kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy software causes this.

So which driver ?? Any minidumps ??

I'd suspect Facebook much more than the GOM download.
A very recent Facebook virus post here on NBR.
Tbh, it could be something completely different though...

You can run the kernel debugger to debug the kernel dump. This will tell you what part of the system the problem occurred in, i.e. which driver or the kernel itself or what. It usually gives a big hint as to what the problem is, or at least it gives some other info to paste into a google search.

    Here are the instructions:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246

Install the Microsoft Debugging Tools, then from the Start menu, right-click WinDbg and select Run as Administrator, then follow the instructions on the page I linked to.
After loading the dump file, type "!analyze -v" as it explains on that page. Then post back the results here.

Most likely not FB since I didn't click any link on it, also I have a lot more common sense than to click a suspicious link on FB. I've seen the virus post on my other friends' walls before though.

I recommend un.install and re.install the gpu driver. It is possible that the SP1 update overrided certain dlls.

    cheers ...
