    hey,

I was running a startup scan with my virus scanner and my laptop just shut down. It is already the second time i tried doing this but both times my laptop just shut down. And i had problems with starting up after it both times as well. My laptop just would shut down again when i tried starting it up again.

has anyone got any clue what is going on?

    is it a virus?

    thanks!

could be a virus, could be a faulty hard drive with damages sectors. any idea if it was scanning through the 500gb or the ocz at the time. could also be high temperatures shutting it down to protect the hardware as virus scanners dont seem to bump the fans up faster. when was the last time you cleaned the vents and fans out with compressed air.

maybe try a boot into safe mode (continuous F8 on bootup) and run the scan again.

I would run diagnostics on it. By boot scan, I assume you were scanning even before the OS was loaded, so I'd bet on some piece of hardware throwing an error at you.
