I have a HP dv5t and I absolutely love it. I bought it with Windows Vista 64bit. I did not do a fresh install. I just cleaned up as much junk and bloatware as I could. Program wise, I am pretty much only booting up Avira.
When I boot up, I notice that my computer is thinking for a good 3-4 minutes after Windows has loaded. Whatever boot up program/service that is making it think this long doesnt take up that much memory because I am able to use the laptop effectively during this period.
I am booting up 50ish processes.
Just wondering what you guys think it could be.
Thanks for the help,

Have you checked to see what else is set to run at boot time?

Do a windows key+R and type in 'msconfig'. Look through list and google any processes which are not Microsoft related.

I did an msconfig when I first got it for the programs, and I'm only booting up Avira. I didn't check the processes though. I will be Google-ing the non Microsoft ones then.

The mysterious program is called Vista Superfetch. It caches popularly used programs and files into unused memory. The more memory you have, the longer it will take (after boot) till your hard drive idles.
