I would suggest you deleted the TMM protocol and cant disable it because it is no longer there. No need to fix it.

I JUST TIMED my startup after reformatting and reinstalling to factory defaults. with everything still the way it was when toshiba setup my laptop, total boot time from the time i press the button to the point where everything loads on the task abr and msn is connected to the internet is 2min 46 sec, this includes stopping at the login screen (windows continues to load behind it anyways)... not too bad, vista is indeed quick with the search, indexing and UAC left on.

it would be nice to shave a minute off the boot time but i also don't want to mess things up again...

Check out message #789 in this very thread. There is a built in process in Vista to optimize the sequence of bootfiles. The trick I document in #789 tells how to invoke this process.

when i open task scheduler it comes up with prompts telling me that the "selected task" which appears for all tasks no longer exists, to see current tasks press refresh. if i press refresh exactly the same will happen again. this happened on the first time i opened it as well

is there a way of fixing it?
    thanks

Use hibernate (don't mistake this for sleep - the power is completely off). Microsoft spent a lot of time getting sleep/hybrid sleep/hibernate right. My Vista notebook boots in ~1 minute from cold (I'll up a video if anyone wants to see).
This is because the OS, services and startup apps don't need their startup configurations loading and each program is not loaded individually. Essentially Vista does instead a massive sequential read of the last hibernate image (your system state) back into RAM, instead of lots of inefficient random reads for each service/app.

If you are of the mindset that your OS must boot from fresh everytime you really should change that thinking - try hibernate before you dismiss it :)

I included a hibernate option in the latest Aerofoil update as a quick menu option, along with other features as mentioned on this thread (like automatically stopping Sidebar, switching power plans etc.).

Most systems are booting on average 25 to 45 seconds from cold boot after the tweaks have been applied. The quoted post does admit this includes a login screen.

If you want a good grading point time from the press of the button until all HD activity is complete and the internet is confirmed.

I got my m1330 yesterday so after playing with it for awhile I decided to follow your tweak guide which I think is really helpful but I did notice that after I changed the registry to cut down shutdown time , as soon as I click shutdown the screen goes black immediately, no log off or anything and it takes more than 20 seconds, when I changed the registry to 10000... any help would be great.

Yep I actually timed my machine fully loaded into Firefox* - including password 29 seconds (but from hibernate, not cold - no tweaks except usual startup tuning/no sidebar/no indexing/no defender/readyboost on SD). This is on a HP DV9233 (1.6GHz Turion X2, 2GB, 120Gb hd)

    Definitely compares well to XP.

    * I deliberately have my wireless come up late after boot meaning no connection was available.

For the #16 AutoMz tweak, is it safe to do the powerful optimization, as well as optimizing boot files and registry?

Edit: It's been 'boosting' for more than an hour now, stuck frozen on the Please Wait 5-10 Minutes mini window.... Is it supposed to take this long??

Yes i got problem about the CPU optimization though, since there's no option for notebook's CPU model... i wonder if its safe for me to choose the "Auto Detect" option or should i just skip that optimization?

My computer feels a little snappier when opening stuff like firefox, bootup took a minute, and logging on was a little longer than normal. Word opens a little snappier, but now i get a long black screen at bootup that is worse than before. And i applied the tweak to get rid of it. What's wrong flamenko?

    if anyone can help me:

I followed this beautiful guide on tweaking Vista

start up & shut down improved very much

I follow all the advices except point 5-7-20.

now I have a little problem: at start up when it appears the screen where I can digit the password, the "NUM LK" function turn on! why? I have to disable it and then digit the password. it's nothing very serious! but I can't stand it. the same thing happened also when I shut down system: NUM LK turn on before the system turn off.
    how can I fix this?

I had this, when you get to the login screen turn off numlock and shut down / reboot. Dont log in, then when you reboot it should stay off then.

Doesn't work for me though, any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciate.

    [EDIT]

Search around and i found myself a registry trick of turning it off....

Go to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard and find the String value InitialKeyboardIndicators.

And below are what the binary number represent.

0-Turns off Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock
    1-Turns on Caps Lock
    2-Turns on Num Lock
3-Turns on Caps Lock and Num Lock
    4-Turns on Scroll Lock
5-Turns on Caps Lock and Scroll Lock
6-Turns on Num Lock and Scroll Lock
7-Turns on Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock

I've found mine been changed to 2, so now i switch it back to 0.

    Hope this helps.

Credit goes to Prapanna at here.

so I'm not the only one with this problem :)

    hope flamenko could help :)

I try to disable it from BIOS! it turns on on start up, but I don't have to disable it manually before digit the password! after I login NUM LK turns automatically off (even if it's disabled from bios, so it would not work)

my e1505 with xp sp2 was getting a little slow so I thought I'd try AutoMZ Ultimate Tweaker. It asked me to install .net 2.0 framework, so i did. After performing all the system tweaks including boot and registry i restarted my computer. but now when i start my computer it boots up to the windows loading screen but not the welcome login screen, just a blank black screen. i cant boot in safemode either. Has anyone experienced this? any comments or solutions would be great.

Indeed... my shut down speed has decrease a lot, normally it takes around 20 seconds, now it just shut down in few seconds.

I wan to know if this is okay as i scare it doesn't give enough time for my program to properly shut down.

I just tested out the "4. Get Quicker Internet Confirmation!" tweak and it did not work well at all. IE and FireFox would not even open once the Workstation service was stopped and it also took longer for my system to boot. As soon as I restarted the service IE and FireFox both immediately opened. I connect to the internet with a cellular broadband air card so I'm not on a LAN.

to go with item 7 ... if you have iTunes installed, check for a service called "Apple Mobile Device"...the default is "Automatic"...but if you're not using an iPhone then change this one to "Manual" and free up about 5MB...

Went through this step by step, trying everything I could.

When I finished doing everything, I booted up. Seemed slower than normal, but everything loaded fine. I then rebooted once more. Now it keeps telling me my password is incorrect, and I can't get in. Any idea what I messed up, and do I have to do a clean install now?

EDIT: Did a search for Vista password issues, and found the recent thread about the tweaking software. I did what the original poster did, logged in with the onscreen keyboard, and was able to get in and use Vista normally.

My password is a mix on letters and numbers. From briefly reading, is Num LK the problem?
