Bah. It's all about 3.6 Beta.
-
LOL. No any new changes compared to 3.5.6 Beta?
Because the changelog is the same. >.<
I just hope FF faster launch the 3.7 version. -

but, to each it's own. the one that suites the best.
i can never personally consider safari to be a useful browser on windows, as a) chrome is about the same and b) the font rendering from mac is clearly inferior to windows font rendering. and the safari on windows uses the same inferior rendering. (obviously, one can personally like that. but it's documented to be "printfriendly, not screenfriendly.." so watching it on a screen is not the best experience.. which is strange, as you normally only ever look at it on the screen). -
-
Bah, just ignore the flamebait. A browser is a personal choice, so let's just leave it at that in this thread and try and stay on topic here
-
-
IE on the other hand (even in the newest version) uses out of date aspects, and Firefox suits my needs far better with Adblock for example and a few more extensions. -
Another update... ah well.. I'll take it then.
I really like IE... I just don't have a good add blocker for it (ie7pro wasn't good and especially consistent enough, I got rid of KIS for causing noticeable lag on a SSD...) got annoyed with Opera for whatever reason on version 9.6x...
Don't want Safari as its Apple... don't want Chrome as its Google...
So I'm stuck with Firefox for an up to date browser.
Still use IE8 here and there though...
(Fingerprints for passwords...)
Thanks for the heads up
Edit:
Something I absolutely hate in Firefox... maybe I miss a settings or its not incorporated...
When I download a file in IE I can give it a name, then the download begins - Firefox just starts to download the file... any way I can have it display a renaming option?? (Pre Download) -

if you go to options, on the first page, in the download section, you can chose to have a default save place, or "ask everytime".

thanks Dave
(Now FF is German again
from English on 3.5.6
)

The ability to choose a name but always download to the same folder... ah well.
I'll live... -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
well, that doesn't happen in ie as well.
-
I just timed FF... 4 seconds to start up after booting... not too bad... but still slow... -

I've been using FF for years now as my primary browser. It's not as fast as I'd like it to be but it's the most comfortable for me, given its appearance and extensions. I think Chrome is a lot faster and I think I'll be making the switch as soon as their extensions are out of beta.

Press windows key > "task scheduler" > delete the Google Update task. -
I liked earlier FF and did notice some instability in the previous version. switched to ie8 which i have grown to appreciate. I liked opera at first but still find it cluttered and unstable. They need the upgrade the most. i dumped chrome and never touch anything apple.
-
I'm considering leaving FF until 4.0 hits the waves.
FF is a mess IMO and is in need of a facelift on the outside and a tune up under the hood. -
I would use a different browser, but I have too many useful add-ons on firefox already! I did try chrome, but it didn't have a home button so I ditched it immediately (I did not like the UI at all, and didn't feel "that" fast).
-

but yeah, they got some concurrency
-
Tuning up is an on going project for ALL browsers, FF is quite good at this over the years as I see.
Face-lift? Marketing ploy to go with whatever the "current" look isAnd in this department FF is also quite good adapting to all aspects of OS over the years.
cheers ... -
I think I talked about it with Dave - yes there is more in Firefox than in IE... but still, that is way too slow - and consider the speed on a HDD... double click and make a coffee... -
Firefox serves me the best on my old PC. Safari is slow as hell on it and it's almost like it takes 10x the same amount of memory usage as Firefox.
Chrome is about as fast as Firefox on my old PC... -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
firefox' performance is mainly related to the disk speed, and there random parallel read/write accesses.
other browsers might be more cpu-heavy. thus firefox maybe runs better on elder systems. -
If Chrome and IE8 can open up plenty fast on my system, there is no reason why FF couldn't as well. There are a lot of little things like that that annoy me about FF.
And man is it ugly... -

-
Design - I find Chrome ugly... like a baby drew something with an oversized crayon... oh wait, it wouldn't make something this ugly... -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah sorry, about 1sec..
terrible slow
-
3,5s ... that's after my laptop has been running a while...
closed FF, waited a few seconds - opened it...
3,5s when "used" 4s when the OS has been rebooted...
Considering that IE, Iron portable (only for Google Wave) Windows Media Player are instantaneous... in my Opera days Opera opened immediately too...
You will say it loads a library a platform for the add-ins etc. this may well be - but its too slow - I can wait 1 minute rather than 30 seconds for an OS.
Instantaneous vs. 3-4s for a browser is very slow.
I can wait for Photoshop, Dreamweaver - why - they are large programmes - can I wait for Adobe Bridge - no, its a small Explorer like programme - and actually I don't have to wait for it.
Someone once mentioned FF feels slow because you have no response - I'm sure this is true too - Outlook 2010 Beta feels (!!) faster than FF when opening.
(Just closed it - it opened in 2 seconds... it is... - word a bit over 2s - used today morning, laptop was on standby since).
And the fact that I get an animation in that time - it helps a lot.
Just tried... Photoshop was 12 seconds - that's quite slow... but because of the moving text its not feeling that slow.
(Edit: This slow start might be because it was a "cold start")
A quick solution for FF would be to have a screen with an animation, a moving toolbar... text that displays what is loaded... it isn't faster, but it feels faster. -

well, my slowest part right now, as benched, are the bios.. i need instant bios

It seems that AdblockPlus (version 1.1.3) isn't compatible with the latest version of Firefox. Hopefully they release and update soon because I miss having ABP.
-
-
Hmm, it's showing up as not compatible for me (see attached pic). I've checked for updates several times, but their site shows 1.1.3 as the latest version so that must not be the issue. Maybe I'll try uninstalling, then reinstall it.
EDIT: Ah, uninstalling/reinstalling did it. ABP is working again for me.Attached Files:

Hmm, I have 1.1.2 and it works fine...
-
-
As mentioned in the edit, it seems crash's copy borked somewhere with a simple reinstall clearing the problem.

I think we should have a single, "Firefox Update" thread for all the new releases. It seems to clog up the forum with every new update to Firefox, just a suggestion.
Regardless, I didn't see any info around here but 3.6 RC1 is out:
