is their a way to use NHC to underclock my ati x1400 automatically when the computer is idle then clock it bak to normal when i am playing games to reduce heat?
i have the ati powerplay on but i always stays at432/396mhz
always is their a way to monitor gpu temp?
thx

No. powerplay depends only on your power source (battery on AC).
If you need dynamic over/under clocking, then turn off powerplay, Install ATi tray tools, set auto overclocking settings for both 2d (windows) and 3d (games) modes and enjoy in auto switching when in windows or in game.
GPU temp is a tricky thing - try everest home edition - because that is the only program I found that can show me my GPU and Ambient GPU temp.
I hope it helps,

thanks, i dl'ed ATT but i still have a few questions.
1) what shud i underclock to while just surfing the web? the default for my x1400 is 432/396.
2) There is a fan tab next to overclocking in ATT however it says "no supported hardware found". I would like to keep my fan running on low sometimes because my CPU temp is usallu around 50 with i just surf the web and thats not high enuf for it to turn on automatically.
3)Also in ATT under system tray monitoring there is a GPU temp. option however its grayed out! how do i use it?
4)Whats diff between low level/driver level overlock?
5)Why am i only getting 619 benchmark score!?
thx -
Hi torvok,
1) On my x700 it is safe to underclock to 100/100. Every card will be unstable at certain low clocks, so you just have to see. Good test is to play dvd or video while uderclocked. Check my article for more info: http://www.thegamebooks.com/powerplay-vs-underclocking-t146.html
2) That is for ATi desktop card fan, not notebook fan. Check my undervolting article in sig.
3) ATT is poor in showing GPU temp (BIOS setting is preventing ATT to show it). So I use Everest home edition and can see both GPU and GPU ambient temp.
4) Low level means usual/normal way of doing it (clocks generator and stuff). Driver level is a new (test) way to do some oc. It works only on x1xxx cards and I haven't tried it.
5) In ATT? That is probably because of powerplay. Some drivers have problems with overclocking and powerplay (6.4 was the worst). The story is like this: you overclock and everything is fine until card goes into 3d (benchmark, game) mode. Then it resets back to the defaults or even worse - underclocks. On the other hand I son't know the x1400 benchmark, but I can say that x700 on default clocks is much faster than that - 1330 at 350/300. On my best oc 416/433 with latencies and advanced settings is around 2100.
Hope this helps,

I am 619 benchmark score on default tho, no overclocking! This is strange becuase thats reaallli bad but whenever I play CS:S and other games it runs fine. I am also not using powerplay.

hm. Strange. Well. I guess it is ok then if you can play games. ATT isn't perfect - but does the best job on ATI cards.
Cheers,
Ivan
NHC can't underclock/powerplay
