Ok, so once again, i am guilty of being too lazy to find the right info -- but i think it is worth asking....so i am gonna go ahead and ask.....

nhc is good for temp monitoring, dynamic switching feature, and some other things (but those are the 2 that i primarily use)

    mobmeter, simple temp monitoring.....

my question: is nhc worth keeping? does dynamic switching, and battery optimization make that much of a difference in the performance/life span/health of the notebook? or does it hog up memory and not really do much?

feel free to chime in with your take on nhc and it's overall usefulness and necessity in maintaining a healthy notebook.....

the only reason i ask is because i am neat freak.....and feel that mobmeter is just fine for temp monitoring - but will keep nhc if it is "worth" it....

    thanks again guys....

I think NHC is the best utility for Intel/Ati combo. The reason for using it is Undervolting and OC/UC of ATi cards. I also use all other things, so it is actually no1 for me.

If you are interested in temps only, I think other programs are good too.

    Cheers,

    Ivan

I agree with Ivan all the way. NHC is the best tool for Intel/ATI combo notebooks. I just love the way of switching my CPU performance, switching Powerplay and seeing my temperatures with a nice looking tool.

Very user friendly tool. Also great for OC/UC (for ATI cards and CPU).

Yeah I think NHC is definitely worth it. It really doesn't use that much memory and it helps a lot when running on battery.

how does it help when running on battery?

i know it can underclock/volt but since installing nhc - i haven't seen my battery life on average go up any?

care to explain the real benefits of nhc when running on battery power?

    thanks a lot!

I have tried NHC and it's still installed but I currently don't have much use for it. But it's definitely a great program. Especially if you are using your laptop on the battery a lot. I would propably use NHC always if the OC function worked for me. I have Mobmeter too and it's small and resource friendly program for measuring temps.

If you underclock/-volt your CPU, it uses less power. If you use the ATI Powerplay function (also available in ATI CCC, which is really bad software), the graphics card and the display uses a lot less power. You can also underclock your graphics card. There's no other program that can do all these things.

you can also lock the battery optimized mode and it will never use any multiplier except the lowest. Making your notebook cool and working longer on battery.

you can underclock ATI to 100/100 and get longer battery times.

Ikovac is thinking of Max Battery setting. It is the one I use 98% of the time on battery. Locking into 800mhz means the processor does not have to use as much power (especially if you undervolt).

Dynamic Switching is almost useless if you do not use Undervolting because most processors (Celeron aside) will automatically "speedstep". They will decrease the multiplier if the processing power is not needed.

Yes I forgot to write that. thanks ttupa. :)

Now I am lost. Perhaps it is better to make a new thread? Many posts are now somehow out of the line. Just an idea.

    Anyway, cheers,

    Ivan

If NHC is designed for ATI systems, is it still the best for nVidia systems, or is there something better?
